Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented 160 Tonne Bystronic Press Brake Setter/Operator to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining press brake machines to produce precise sheet metal components. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in fabrication and mechanical knowledge to contribute to high-quality production processes. The position is paid and suitable for those eager to develop their skills within a dynamic industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and calibrate press brake machines according to specifications and technical drawings:
- Review the drawing (Analyse the drawing to determine the material type, thickness, required bend angles, flange dimensions, and tolerances
- Tooling Selection & Installation (Choose the correct punch and die based on the material. These must be properly cleaned, aligned, and securely clamped into the press brake's bed and ram)
- Tonnage Calculation (Determine the necessary press force required to execute the bend without overloading the machine or crushing the tools)
- Programming the machine’s back gauge and ram stroke (enter the material thickness, V-die opening, and bend angles into the controller. Program the back gauges to ensure the sheet metal is positioned correctly for consistent, repeated bends.)
- Test bend (Run a test piece on scrap material to verify the bend angle and dimensions)
- Adjustments & Tweaks (Fine-tune the ram stroke, back gauge, and pressure to compensate for any material "springback" before running the final production parts)
General
- Operate press brake machinery efficiently to bend and shape sheet metal components with precision
- Monitor machine operation during production runs, making adjustments as necessary to ensure quality standards are met
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Read and interpret technical drawings and work orders accurately
- Use hand tools, tooling, and other fabrication equipment to support production tasks
- Assist in the assembly of finished products when required
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to safety protocols at all times Qualifications
- Proven experience in fabrication, sheet metal work, or related manufacturing roles
- Knowledge of grinding, welding, and general mechanical processes is advantageous
- Familiarity with tooling setup and operation of press brake machinery
- Strong understanding of basic maths for measurement and calculation purposes
- Ability to use hand tools effectively and safely
- Good mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot machine issues
- Experience with sheet metal handling and assembly tasks preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
This role provides an engaging opportunity for individuals passionate about manufacturing technology and precision engineering. We welcome applications from candidates eager to enhance their skills within a supportive team environment.
