Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Bus and Coach Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for routine safety inspections, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of buses and coaches to ensure safety, reliability, and optimal performance. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong mechanical and electrical expertise to contribute to a vital public service. The position involves working with various tools and equipment, requiring attention to detail and a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance in a friendly, non pressurised environment.

Responsibilities

Conduct routine safety inspections and diagnostics on buses and coaches to identify mechanical, electrical, or structural issues
Perform repairs and maintenance including engine work, brake systems, suspension, steering, and transmission components
Fabricate and modify parts as needed using welding, soldering, and assembly techniques
Interpret schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex systems effectively
Utilise hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other specialised machinery for repairs and fabrication tasks
Repair or replace electrical components, wiring harnesses, lighting systems, and electronic controls
Maintain accurate records of all repairs performed and parts used in compliance with company standards
Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and organisational policies

Skills

Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in vehicle repair and maintenance
Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and technical diagrams
Skilled in fabrication techniques including welding and soldering
Experience with electrical systems within vehicles is highly desirable
Competence in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and assembly fixtures
Excellent problem-solving skills with an organised approach to diagnostics and repairs
Strong customer service skills to effectively communicate with team members and clients
Prior experience working on buses or similar large vehicles is needed

Pay: £44,200.00-£52,000.00 per year
