Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) - Health Visitor

CNWL NHS Foundation Trust (Camden) are delighted to offer suitable applicants an exciting opportunity to develop their career by undertaking the SCPHN Health Visiting course. This is run as a joint programme with Kings College London, split between clinical practice and university attendance.

This is an exciting time for health visiting as we look to the future and develop services designed to meet the needs of our diverse population. We work as an integrated service with the London Borough of Camden to support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to families in Camden.

Applicants must be registered nurses/midwives with current registration and an interest in addressing the health needs of children and families. The course is at Level 7 (Master's Degree); see person specification for application requirements. Applicants must be able to use public transport to travel to and from work and during the course of their working day.

Courses commence in September 2026 and are offered on a full-time basis. Please indicate on your application if you have commenced the course previously at any university and the reason you did not complete it.

You will be given a fixed term one year full-time contract to undertake a PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse course (Health Visiting) at Kings College London University.

Sponsorship will be paid at a Band 5 salary.

The course commences September 2026 to be completed by September 2027. It is a full calendar year, consisting of 50% academic study and 50% in practice (start dates to be confirmed by the University). The practice placements will be situated across Camden.

This is a development post, building on existing knowledge, skills and competencies as a nurse/midwife to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification and a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

These are fully funded training opportunities; subject to funding being made available from Health Education England, to qualify as a registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) and is open to all qualified Nurses and Midwives.

Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible

Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary

Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services

Being open and transparent about their own practice

Supervising the work of others

Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made

Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement

Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records

Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements.

The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses, including Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor), are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
