Job Summary

This is a fully funded, salaried training post. You do not need prior neurophysiology experience. All training will be provided.

You will join the department of clinical neurophysiology as an apprentice, spending the majority of your time gaining hands on clinical experience whilst working towards a BSC (Hons) Healthcare science (Neurophysiology) level 6 degree, with the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol. The programme runs for 3 years, delivered mainly through distance learning with block release residential weeks at UWE Bristol. You will be paid an NHS salary throughout under Annex 21 terms. On successful completion of the BSc and clinical competency assessments you will be eligible to apply for a qualified band 5 healthcare science practitioner post, subject to vacancies within the department.

Essential Criteria

Academic qualifications (required by UWE Bristol for programme entry):

GCSE grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics (Functional Skills Level 2 accepted)
A-level grade C or above in at least one of: Biology, Applied Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Health and Social Care, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Applied Science, Science in Society, Sport and Physical Education, Sports Studies. Equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience may be considered by UWE Bristol in place of standard A-level requirements. If you are unsure whether your qualifications meet the criteria, please contact the department before applying.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and must not be enrolled on any other apprenticeship or full-time education programme at the time of starting.

What you will bring to the role

This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with patients of all ages and backgrounds. The ability to work independently but also as part of a team. You must be motivated and committed to completing the 3 year structured training programme. You must be organised to manage your own learning and clinical workload and be compassionate and patient focussed
