We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.
About the role
The Product Owner for Data Analysis is responsible for defining, prioritising and delivering high-quality data products and analytics tools that enable insight-driven decision-making across the Academic Department. The role is accountable for ensuring data products are scalable, reusable and aligned to strategic priorities, while driving Agile delivery through effective sprint planning, backlog management and continuous iteration using tools such as Jira.
Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:
- Define and own the vision, roadmap, and backlog for data products and analytics development within a Data Mesh architecture
- Translate business needs from Data Product owners into clearly defined user stories and acceptance criteria
- Lead the design and build lifecycle of data products, business intelligence tools and analytics from concept through to deployment and iteration
- Collaborate with data engineering, BI, and analytics teams to ensure robust, scalable solutions
- Own and manage the product backlog within Jira, ensuring prioritisation reflects business value
- Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, and sprint reviews
- Monitor progress, remove blockers, and ensure timely delivery of sprint commitments
This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition.
About You
You will be an Agile Product Owner with experience in a Product Owner role, ideally in a technical or data-focused environment. You will also bring a strong attention to detail and a practical, quality-focused approach, with a track record of delivering successful products.
If you meet the above minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply. Your application will be even stronger if you can also demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
- You will ideally bring experience of establishing processes within a new team environment, along with knowledge of the Academic sector, including publisher products, services and wider industry trends.
- Strong commercial awareness would also be valuable, helping you to identify business priorities and maintain a clear focus on value.
