Play a critical role in supporting people with barriers to gaining employment into work including neurodivergent people, people with Learning disabilities, ex-offenders and other barriers.

Join us as a Job Coach to engage with and influence employers to diversify their workforce and support them to look at alternative methods of recruitment. Once people have gained work, you’ll support them to learn the role according to their support needs. In addition, you’ll work alongside the employer with training and induction for the person and help sustain the role.

Based in a small, but dedicated, team of City job coaches, you’ll work on the new Department and Work and Pensions funded, Connect to Work Project, which uses the Supported Employment mode to help people find and sustain paid employment. You’ll also be working alongside Leicestershire and Rutland Connect to Work teams.

You’ll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at Wellington Street or working remotely from home to suit the needs of the service. However, under our New Ways of Working Policy you’ll be required to work a minimum of 2 days in a non-home base location. But ultimately this role is about bringing adults and employers together, so you need to be willing to work in different ways and in a variety of locations.

Your main hours will be Monday to Friday however, some flexibility is needed as you may be required to work evenings, nights and weekends if that is when support is required.

What you’ll be doing

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be trying to engage with, and then meet, with the adults you are supporting or working with an employer. You’ll be working with people with varied life experiences who could be autistic or neurodivergent people, people with learning disabilities, young people, offenders and ex-offenders.

You’ll complete vocational profiles with individuals to get to know how they would like to be supported and complete action plans with said person to identify how they reach their career aspirations. You’ll also be responsible for helping those you meet to apply for jobs and prepare for interviews. Throughout each stage, you’ll explore and utilise different communication methods and any reasonable adjustments the person you’re working with might need.

In addition, the role will require you to engage with and build relationships with employers to find out how we can work with them and discuss upcoming job roles and potential adaptations.

Once individuals are in their new roles, you’ll support them further by assisting them in learning their new job and what it entails, as well as supporting in work experience opportunities. This will include recording your progress accurately to be able to provide updates for the DWP and other stakeholders.

Within this role, you’ll attend meetings, deliver presentations to teams or support promotion of the service at job fairs.

What you’ll need

We’re seeking a confidant, passionate, resilient, adaptable individual who has the ability to engage with a wide range of people with different experiences, including employers.

You’ll have experience of supporting people with barriers to finding work. With the ability to communicate with a range of people on different levels, with a variety of communication needs. Additionally, you’ll have experience of engaging employers and supporting people to find work. Showcasing your interpersonal skills to professionally conduct business to business communications.

As an organised individual, you’ll be able to manage your own time and effectively manage competing priorities with ease. You’ll show accuracy and attention to detail when completing tasks, such as, creating records of individuals career paths.

Due to the nature of this role, you’ll be subject to a DBS check.
