About the role:
As Individual Giving Manager, you will play a key role in developing and delivering engaging fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship journeys and supporter communications that build loyalty, increase income and deepen supporter engagement.
You will use insight, innovation and a supporter-focused approach to create outstanding donor experiences and maximise fundraising opportunities.

This position will suit a person capable of working within a highly pressured environment, with a proven track record in growing individual giving programs and memberships.
We have big plans for the future, and our Individual Giving Manager will be an integral part of those plans by delivering growth in income from Individual Giving activities.
Project Management:
- Build on and develop our existing City Hospice individual giving strategy to achieve agreed targets in supporter recruitment and retention - including regular giving schemes and one-off donations, online and cash donations, Local Hospice Lottery, payroll giving, from small to mid and high value donors, in memoriam and legacy giving
- Deliver individual giving strategy action plans for each area of individual giving
- To develop innovative ways of developing individual giving income streams through appeals
Donor Management
- Manage and grow an individual supporter pipeline to support City Hospice’s work, working with colleagues to grow networks
- Ensure outstanding donor management and record keeping for individual donors, as well as pipeline and forecasting
- Manage the development and delivery of a strong supporter journey / stewardship strategy for individual supporters, working with community and events fundraisers to establish sustainable sources of income and ensuring City Hospice supporters have the best experience of interacting with the charity
- Oversee individual supporter recruitment, including face-to-face and digital channels
- Identify, with the Fundraising and Events Manager, major donor , prospects and assist in the development of tailored donor, engagement plans which convert prospects into donors
- Development to develop a major donor programme capable of delivering six figure gifts on an annual basis
- Make face-to-face financial requests as required, either directly or through senior staff or Trustees. Ensure others are appropriately briefed and supporting when making approaches
- Develop a long-term legacy strategy to maximise the opportunity that Gifts in Wills presents for income growth for the charity
- Maximise tax efficient giving opportunities, including promoting Gift Aid, ensuring Gift Aid declarations are adequately and efficiently stored
- Increase levels of support stewardship, working with the fundraising team to develop and implement a stewardship programme with regular touchpoints
Line Management
- Provide direct line management, leadership and support to two Database Assistants, ensuring high standards of performance, accuracy and service delivery
- Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews and development discussions, supporting individual learning and professional growth
- Set priorities and allocate workload to ensure effective support for individual giving campaigns, donor stewardship activities and fundraising operations
- Monitor performance against agreed objectives and provide coaching, guidance and feedback to enable continuous improvement
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team culture, ensuring effective communication and strong working relationships across fundraising and wider organisational teams
- Ensure database processes and procedures are followed consistently, maintaining data quality, compliance, and operational efficiency
- Work closely with the Fundraising Manager to align team objectives with departmental priorities and fundraising targets
Communication & Advocacy
- Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Support the Fundraising Team in the production of fundraising literature, reports (including an annual report), case studies and internal communications
- Work with the Marketing Executive to input individual giving into the marketing & communications plan
- Ensure that necessary information for individual giving is suitably presented on promotional materials including the website as required
- Represent City Hospice as an ambassador internally & externally
Collaborative Working
- To develop collaborative working relationships with internal staff to support individual fundraising delivery through structured planning
- Share best practice throughout City Hospice
- To contribute to effective teamwork by sharing individual giving experience and knowledge and offering support as appropriate e.g. on joint projects and at events
- Support fundraising and promotional events led by other teams, as requested
Administration
- Effectively create and maintain up-to-date individual giving records
- Manage the restricted funding reporting requirements liaising with the team to ensure this is up to date and Finance is aware of how to spend funds in line with funders’ wishes
- Manage and work within City Hospice’s fundraising administrative, IT systems and guidelines
Additional Notes
- The post will involve travel to meet with prospective and current donors
- The team is small so support with colleagues networking may be required
- This role may involve flexible working hours to include some evening and weekend work - time off in lieu will be given
- Undertake training and skills development and keep up to date with the changing requirements of the role
Person Specification
Qualifications Desirable
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent
Experience Essential
- At least two years’ working in a similar role in the charitable sector
- A sound knowledge and understanding of individual giving programmes, major donor, payroll and legacy giving
- Experience of working with individual donors, and of building and developing relationships with supporters
- Experience of developing and implementing donor stewardship programmes, putting the supporter journey at the heart of the strategy
- Proven track record of meeting fundraising targets
- Knowledge of the charitable sector and the challenges it faces
- Knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulations, particularly with relation to individual giving
- Good knowledge of CRM databases, preferably Raisers Edge though training will be given
- Good knowledge of budgets and experience of reporting on financial performance
- An understanding of Direct Marketing techniques with relation to fundraising
- Using digital techniques to engage with and fundraise from individuals
Experience Desirable
- Experience of legacy giving models
Skills & Attributes Essential
- A creative thinker who can articulate compelling and persuasive cases for support to donor prospects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of donor prospect groups
- Good administrative and organisational skills, able to set personal timetables with high-level attention to detail and ability to meet agreed deadlines
- Good time management skills and able to manage a busy and varied workload
- IT literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Office 365) with the ability to use Raisers Edge (training will be provided if necessary)
- Skilled in prioritising effectively within highly reactive environments and able to manage own workload and responsibilities with minimal supervision
- A proactive approach to thinking creatively around fundraising
- Able to adapt to different situations and tasks, remaining calm under pressure
DBS CHECK
In this role you will have direct contact with patients / service users / vulnerable adults in the course of your normal duties. As such you WILL be required to apply for a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure Check as part of City Hospice pre-employment check procedure.
