Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Carriage Restorer to join our specialised restoration team. This role involves restoring and maintaining historic carriages, ensuring they are preserved to the highest standards. The ideal candidate will have a passion for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a keen interest in heritage preservation. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their skills within a traditional craft environment.

Responsibilities

Restoring and repairing historic carriages using traditional and modern techniques
Stripping, cleaning, and preparing carriage components for restoration
Repairing or replacing damaged woodwork, metal fittings, and upholstery
Applying finishes such as paint, varnish, or polish to enhance appearance and protection
Maintaining detailed records of restoration processes and materials used
Collaborating with the team to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification
Ensuring all work complies with heritage conservation standards and safety regulations

Requirements

Proven mechanical knowledge with experience in working with various materials and components
Familiarity with hand tools such as chisels, hammers, screwdrivers, and files
Experience with power tools including drills, sanders, and saws is highly desirable
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Previous experience in heritage restoration or a related field is advantageous but not essential
Willingness to learn traditional craftsmanship techniques and adapt to specific project requirements
