Thanks to our continued growth, Evans Vanodine is seeking a Microbiologist to join our team from 1st September 2026. This is an entry level role, ideal for a recent graduate in microbiology or a related life science, or someone returning to work after a career break. The role involves working within a regulated, quality-driven microbiology laboratory, supporting routine and developmental disinfectant efficacy projects, working closely with R&D and production, in accordance with approved test methods, quality systems, and H&S requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing
- Perform microbiological efficacy testing of disinfectants and biocides in accordance with approved standards and in-house SOPs.
- Prepare, culture, maintain and enumerate bacterial and fungal test organisms.
- Prepare disinfectant dilutions and test suspensions accurately and aseptically.
- Carry out environmental monitoring and basic laboratory housekeeping activities.
- Assist with method validation, verification and developmental studies under supervision.
- Undertake other routine laboratory duties as required.
Health & Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Work in compliance with the laboratory’s UKAS accredited quality management system to the ISO/IEC 10725 standard.
- Accurately record data, calculations and observations on Microsoft SharePoint.
- Work safely with microorganisms and disinfectant chemicals in accordance with COSHH regulations, Risk Assessments, SOPs, test methods and quality procedures at all times.
- Report deviations, out of specification results and non-conformances promptly to senior staff.
- Dispose of biological and chemical waste in line with laboratory procedures.
- Maintain a clean, orderly and safe laboratory working environment.
Training & Development
- Participate in internal training and competency assessments.
- Develop technical microbiology skills and understanding of regulated laboratory testing.
- Support continuous improvement activities within the laboratory.
Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
- Degree level qualification or equivalent in Microbiology or a related biological science.
- Basic understanding of microbiology laboratory techniques (e.g. aseptic technique, dilution, plating, incubation).
- Some practical laboratory experience (academic, placement or industrial).
- Awareness of laboratory quality systems and accreditation (ISO/IEC EN 10725 standard and UKAS)
- Familiarity with disinfectants, biocides or antimicrobial testing (desirable).
- Competence in basic data analysis and calculations.
