Materials Buyer – Maternity Cover

Chichester | £40,000 Pro Rata | 3 Days Per Week

Potential for Full-Time Permanent Position

We are looking for a motivated and organised Materials Buyer to join our ever-growing team based in Chichester on a maternity cover basis. This role is initially for 3 days per week, with the potential to develop into a full-time permanent position for the right candidate.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and expanding construction business, working closely with the Commercial Director and project teams across a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities

Providing prices for all materials included within project plans and drawings
Carrying out take-offs from drawings and quantifying materials required
Analysing quotations and tender returns from suppliers
Working closely with project teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and contractors in line with project programmes
Identifying potential suppliers and sourcing new products
Contacting suppliers to obtain competitive quotations
Negotiating favourable terms and delivery schedules with suppliers
Maintaining accurate purchasing records and organised work schedules
Assessing supplier reliability and performance
Dealing effectively with supplier issues and material flow challenges
Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements relating to materials and services
Providing cost advice and support to estimators and the commercial team
Reporting directly to the Commercial Director

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous experience within a materials buying or procurement role in construction
Ability to read construction drawings and carry out accurate take-offs
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Good knowledge of construction materials and supply chains
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Competent IT skills, including Excel and procurement systems
