The Role
As an Assistant/Junior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the financial management of construction projects, ensuring costs are effectively controlled while maximising value. Working as a subcontractor’s Quantity Surveyor, you will liaise closely with our operations teams to stay informed of project developments, proactively capturing any amendments that may affect project budget.

Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the Commercial Manager, you will support the financial and contractual management of projects. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Measurement & Quantification – Taking off quantities and calculating building material requirements to prepare material requisitions.
- Estimating & Pricing – Preparing cost estimates and creating Bills of Quantities for projects.
- Variation Management – Identifying and pricing variations to the contracted scope of works.
- Labour Measurement – Tracking labour output and preparing wage assessments on a fortnightly basis.
- Progress Tracking – Monitoring actual site progress against scheduled programme milestones.
- Cost Management – Assisting in the creation of detailed project budgets and tracking costs against these monthly.
- Document Control – Managing and maintaining project documents on internal servers and online client portals.
- Collaboration – Liaising with internal departments, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
- General Commercial Support – Assisting the Commercial Manager and the wider commercial team with additional tasks as required.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about developing their skills in quantity surveying, demonstrating a strong interest in the financial, contractual, and technical aspects of construction projects. They should possess a solid analytical mindset, keen attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
Skills & Attributes:
- Numerical & Analytical Skills – Strong mathematical ability and analytical skills to support cost management and budgeting.
- Technical Drawing & Documentation Review – Familiarity with reviewing technical drawings and construction documentation to ensure accuracy.
- IT Proficiency – Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook, with the ability to learn to operate other software as required, for internal process management, and BIM information management.
- Attention to Detail – A focus on precision in measurement, pricing, and contractual documentation.
· Communication & Problem-Solving – Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to address challenges and communicate commercial matters clearly.
· Organisation & Resilience – Able to multitask, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project demands under pressure.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field within Construction.
- At least 2 years of experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- A strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry standards.
