Full job description

Service Engineer

Precision Laser Systems | Field Service | International Travel

We are looking for a capable, hands-on Service Engineer to support our customers, maintain and improve system performance, and help keep specialist equipment running reliably.

Laser Wire Solutions designs and builds precision laser-based systems for demanding applications in medical technology and high-value wire connections.

This is a customer-facing technical role covering fault-finding, commissioning, preventative maintenance, training, documentation, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with Engineering, Applications, Production, Opportunities, and Customer Service, acting as a trusted technical link between LWS and our customers.

The role includes planned overseas travel, with approximately 6–8 weeks per year spent abroad.

What you will do

Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues,
Install, commission, service, and support LWS systems at customer sites,
Carry out planned, preventative, and proactive maintenance,
Identify ways to improve reliability, serviceability, and customer outcomes,
Support factory acceptance testing before machine shipment,
Help customers with setup, optimisation, and operator training,
Create and improve service documentation, reports, and technical guidance,
Feed field insight back into product, process, and service improvements.

What we are looking for

You are a practical, technically strong engineer who enjoys solving problems properly, not just fixing the immediate issue, but helping prevent it from happening again.

You will be someone who:

Fault-finds methodically across mechanical and electrical systems,
Takes ownership of customer issues through to resolution,
Communicates clearly with customers and internal teams,
Spots opportunities to improve processes, documentation, and training,
Works independently and stays calm under pressure,
Is comfortable with travel, including time overseas.

What you will bring

Engineering or technical qualification, or equivalent hands-on experience,
Experience in service, maintenance, commissioning, or technical support,
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills,
Ability to read wiring schematics, technical drawings, and system documentation,
Confidence working directly with customers,
Good written reporting and documentation skills.

Experience with laser systems, automation, optical equipment, precision machinery, or regulated manufacturing environments would be a strong advantage.

Working environment

This is a permanent, full-time role working 37 hours per week.

You will be based at LWS Headquarters on the outskirts of Cardiff, with UK and overseas travel as required.
