Gorrod, Davie, Kemp, Walker & Company Ltd. is a specialist agricultural consultancy and management company providing technical, logistical and marketing support services in the Scottish seed potato sector. The majority of our work is carried out on behalf of Saltire Seed Ltd., a grower-owned cooperative recognised for its high standards, innovation, and close relationships with growers and customers. Saltire Seed is a key supplier to PepsiCo and a regular recipient of the PepsiCo Europe Best Seed Supplier Performance award.
Role Overview
This is a senior position responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the group. Working closely with the General Manager, growers, hauliers and customers, you will ensure that our operations run efficiently and that the business consistently delivers the high level of service our customers and growers expect. You will coordinate the movement of seed potatoes from the field to the customer, manage stock records and estimations, and resolve operational challenges as they arise.
If desired, this can be a hybrid role, with the balance of working from home varying throughout the year and more in-office presence required during our busier periods.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics
- Oversee the movement of seed potatoes throughout the supply chain.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with haulage companies and shipping lines.
- Coordinate transport requirements and respond to changing circumstances.
Operational Management
- Coordinate grading, packing and dispatch programmes by allocating customer orders across grower stores for efficient and timely fulfilment.
- Communicate and analyse stock estimations and counts from our growers.
- Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Support the implementation of new systems and continuous improvements.
Customer Relationships
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers, responding promptly and maintaining excellent service standards.
- Build strong, long-term customer relationships and represent the company professionally at meetings where appropriate.
Grower Relationships
- Maintain regular communication with grower shareholders throughout the season, including site visits.
- Coordinate operational requirements between growers and customers and support grower meetings and company events.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in operations or business management.
- Experience managing logistics or supply chains.
- Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build lasting relationships.
- Confident with Excel for analysis and reporting.
Desirable
- Agricultural background or knowledge of the potato/wider agricultural sector.
- Experience working with seasonal production businesses.
- Commercial awareness and contract management experience.

Probationary Period
This appointment will be subject to a probationary period lasting until June 2027, covering the first full delivery season. Performance, suitability and cultural fit will be reviewed over this period. Confirmation of employment will be subject to the satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
