About Us

Hunters of Helmsley is an award-winning, family-run delicatessen at the heart of Helmsley’s market square. For over 30 years we’ve been delighting locals and visitors with our food-to-go, cheeses, charcuterie, pies, and ice creams, as well as an upstairs treasure trove of wines, chocolates, speciality foods and homeware.

Whether it’s a lunchtime sandwich, a summer ice cream, or a Christmas hamper, we’re proud to be part of people’s food memories.

The Role

This role is based on our busy deli counter downstairs - the hub of the shop.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can help keep the deli running smoothly during our busiest periods. You’ll be serving customers, preparing food, and supporting the wider team - all while maintaining high standards and working at pace.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll be expected to take responsibility, support others, and stay on top of things when it gets busy.

What You’ll Be Doing

Greeting and serving customers with warmth and enthusiasm
Preparing sandwiches, salads, and deli orders to a high standard
Slicing meats, cutting and wrapping cheeses, and advising on our products
Serving ice cream during busy periods (especially in summer)
Keeping the deli counter fresh, tidy, and well presented
Maintaining high food safety standards, including cleaning routines
Assisting with stock rotation, replenishment, and deliveries
Supporting with cleaning and washing up as part of daily routines

Everyone works together as a team - from serving customers to keeping things clean and stocked.

Physical Requirements

This is an active and physically demanding role. You will be expected to:

Be on your feet for the full duration of your shift
Work in a busy, fast-paced environment
Lift and carry stock and supplies
Stay active and engaged throughout the day

What We’re Looking For

A friendly, confident personality with great communication skills
Comfortable working in a busy, fast-moving environment
Able to work at pace during peak periods
Reliable, organised, and proactive
Willing to get stuck in and support the team wherever needed

Previous experience in retail, deli, café, or hospitality is preferred.
