Your next role

Swindon Borough Council is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Public Health Practitioner to join our dedicated Public Health team. This is a unique opportunity to help improve lives across Swindon.

Our vision is to create healthy, strong and resilient communities. Our highly successful public health team works to improve and protect the health of Swindon residents, tackle health inequalities and protect the most vulnerable.

As a Public Health Practitioner, you will play a central role in shaping the future direction of Swindon’s response to improving the mental health and wellbeing of Swindon’s population and reducing the health harms linked to substance use disorders. You will support the development and implementation of the Swindon Suicide Prevention Strategy, our mental health workstreams and oversee complex areas of work related to drug and alcohol recovery, ensuring alignment with Swindon’s combating drugs partnership strategy and local grant requirements. You will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders including locally commissioned services, NHS primary and secondary care partners, The Wiltshire Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, The National Probation service, voluntary and community sector organisations, children’s and adult’s services, and regional networks.

As a Public Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing practitioner support and expertise to improve population health and wellbeing. You will deliver a sustainable programme of activities, using a range of evidence-based public health skills and expertise to ensure our interventions are targeted to reduce inequalities and to deliver our strategic priorities.

The team operates a hybrid working model with all practitioners expected to be in the office for a minimum of two days per week.

There is also an expectation dependant on population health needs the successful candidate will be expected to work across multiple portfolios when required to do so.

You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”
