Full job description

Overview

We are looking for a reliable Accounts Assistant / Bookkeeper to join our team. This is a hands-on role supporting the practice with day-to-day bookkeeping, client accounts, and routine accounting tasks. The ideal candidate is organised, numerate, and comfortable working with accounting software.

Responsibilities

Process sales and purchase invoices.
Reconcile bank accounts.
Maintain ledgers and prepare trial balances.
Prepare VAT returns and assist with VAT record keeping.
Support payroll processing and pension auto-enrolment tasks.
Assist with month-end and year-end routines and management accounts.
Assist with preparation of tax returns.
Communicate with clients to resolve queries and gather information.
Support senior accountants.
General office support including answering telephone and administrative tasks.

Skills and Experience

Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
Good communication skills to liaise effectively with team members and external parties.
Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial regulations.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
