Job Title: Live-in Village Hall Caretaker & Grounds Person (with Accommodation)
Location: East Harlsey, North Yorkshire
Job Type: Part-time (with tied accommodation)

About Us

East Harlsey Village Hall is the heart of our community. We host everything from regular social evenings, weekly fitness classes to weddings, and coffee mornings. We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and thorough Caretaker to ensure our hall and grounds are always welcoming, immaculate, and ready for our guests.

The Role & Accommodation

As our Caretaker, you will manage the day-to-day preparation of the hall, maintain high standards of indoor cleanliness, and look after the surrounding outdoor spaces.

This role may suit either a flexible individual or a couple looking to share the responsibilities.
This role necessitates the successful applicant(s) to live in the cottage attached to the village hall and comes with a service occupancy agreement (charged to reflect it being a service occupancy). This offers a fantastic community-focused lifestyle with the convenience of living on-site to easily manage evening locking and unlocking duties.
This role averages 10 hours per week across the year. Due to increased hires and grounds maintenance, workload peaks during the summer months and scales down during the winter.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare the hall for regular weekly classes, monthly community events, and private hires (e.g., parties, weddings).
Manage access by unlocking and locking the hall before and after every event.
Set up facilities, including positioning disabled ramps and setting up room heating in advance.
Prepare the bar area by switching on fridges several hours before events.
Conduct post-event inspections for external hires to check for damage and ensure the hall is left tidy.
Collaborate with the committee to tidy up after Village Hall-organised events.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the hall, toilets, and kitchen area.
Conduct weekly cleans (or more frequently after large events) of all toilets, sinks, and kitchen spaces.
Manage inventory by checking and restocking consumables like toilet rolls and soap before and after events.
Perform nightly security checks to ensure all lights, taps, and heating are off, windows are shut, and doors are locked.
Maintain outdoor areas to ensure the hall is beautifully presented externally.
Perform regular grass cutting and lawn care around the property.
Keep pathways clear and tidy for safe visitor access.

What We Are Looking For

Previous cleaning, groundskeeping, or customer-facing experience is preferred.
Friendly, dependable, and highly reliable.
High standards and thorough, with excellent attention to detail and pride in your work.
Able to accommodate the living-on-site requirement and split-hours nature of the role (mornings, evenings, and weekends).
