No.4 Carlton Hotel and Maison Carlton are two luxurious boutique properties located in the heart of historic Southampton. Set on Carlton Crescent — often referred to as Southampton’s Mayfair — our properties offer elegant surroundings, thoughtful service and a guest experience designed to feel personal, polished and memorable.
We are seeking a professional, warm and highly presentable Front of House Host to join our team. This is a guest-facing role at the heart of our hospitality experience, responsible for creating an exceptional first impression and ensuring every guest feels welcomed, valued and well cared for.
The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for hospitality, a calm and confident manner, and a strong eye for detail. We are looking for someone who understands that 5-star service is not loud or forced — it is thoughtful, discreet and consistently excellent.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome guests warmly and professionally on arrival
- Manage check-ins and check-outs smoothly and efficiently
- Handle reservations, amendments and guest enquiries with accuracy and care
- Provide concierge-style support, including local recommendations and assistance with guest requests
- Communicate effectively with housekeeping, maintenance and management to ensure a seamless guest experience
- Maintain immaculate front of house standards at all times
- Respond to guest feedback, requests and issues promptly, calmly and professionally
- Support guest communications by phone, email and in person
- Anticipate guest needs and look for opportunities to exceed expectations
- Represent the properties with pride, discretion and professionalism
- Uphold the service standards and luxury positioning of both No.4 Carlton Hotel and Maison Carlton
Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in hotel reception, guest relations, luxury hospitality or a premium customer-facing role is desirable
- A natural passion for delivering exceptional guest service
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Warm, confident and professional manner
- Immaculate presentation and strong attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Confident using booking systems, email and general computer systems
- Reliable, discreet and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and shifts where required

You will be someone who takes pride in the small details: remembering a guest’s name, noticing when something needs attention, and making every interaction feel effortless. You will understand that luxury hospitality is about warmth, consistency and anticipation — not simply following a checklist.
This role would suit someone with experience in boutique hotels, high-end hospitality, luxury retail, private members’ clubs, premium restaurants or any environment where exceptional service and presentation are essential.
