Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Lockgate Operator to oversee the opening and closing of the lockgates at Eastham, as well as mooring and unmooring vessels in the lock.

Responsibilities

Working a shift patten dictated by the high-water tide times, meaning shift patterns will be irrelgular and you will be required to work unsocial hours, including Bank Holidays.
Manage the opening and closing of lockgates, ensuring smooth, safe and secure access control throughout shifts, as instructed by VTS.
Operate sluices.
Receiving and releasing mooring line from ships in the lock.
Following Peel Ports’ guidelines.
Maintain cleanliness around the site.
Adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines.
To be able to cope with the physical demand of the job, which includes irregular shift patterns and unsocial hours of working.
To be able to work in all weathers.
Adhere to and follow health and safety regulations in place.
Wear the appropriate PPE.
Work in a shift pattern dictated by the high-water tide times.
Conduct routine inspections of gate equipment to ensure operational efficiency and report any malfunctions promptly.

Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.
Must live locally and be able to travel at varying hours of the day, including at night.
Friendly and approachable.
Good communication skills.
To be able to work well as part of a team, as well as independently.
Confident personality.
Be aware of health and safety of self and others.
Have the legal right to work in the UK.

Pay: £28,877.12 per year
