The Role
We are looking for Welders and Fabricators who have achieved, General Welding Level 2 Apprenticeship or who have equivalent relevant experience to join our expanding team. The position will work within our Production Fabrication team making bespoke haulage trailers and truck plant bodies. Successful applicants will learn how to manufacture a range of standard and non-standard parts to drawing, on time and to a high standard of work.
Reporting to your Team Leader/ Welding Shop Manager you will be expected to follow instructions and build specifications to assemble heavy haulage trailers and plant bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- General fabrication and welding to required specifications as part of constructing or repairing structural components
- Adapt and develop welding techniques across different material groups, joint configurations and positions
- Technical documentation- reading and interpreting job specifications, drawings manufacturer instructions/manuals and quality documents
- Follow instructions and work from technical drawings as part of the assembly process
- Troubleshoot, fix, repair and identify common faults and issues within a fabrication and welding environment
Quality Standards
- Responsible for the quality output within your respective area/department
- Ensure all work meets the required quality standards and follows the relevant specifications in line with drawings and build instructions
- Highlight any quality issues immediately and support investigation or corrective actions
- Conduct quality inspections and ensuring the Job Book inspection sign-offs have been completed for your area/department before moving the product on
- Work closely with the Quality department to address non-conformances and implement corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency and enhance product quality
Communication & Liaison
- Act as a point of contact between shop floor, production teams and management
- Provide daily up-dates on progress, issues and resource/material shortages or re-work requirements
- Complete production records including job book inspection sign-offs
- Communicate clearly with fitting, paint and quality teams to resolve any build issues
- Work closely with Quality, Health & Safety and Stores teams to maintain smooth workflow
Health & Safety
- Responsible for health and safety within respective area/team
- Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with company health & safety policies, risk assessments, and statutory regulations
- Promote a culture of safety-first and challenge unsafe behaviours or conditions via our near miss procedures
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and support accident/incident investigations if any witness, near misses in line with support from Health & Safety Advisors
- Maintain a tidy and organised bay in line with Health and Safety 6S principles
- Ensure all tools, equipment and PPE are used correctly and maintained in good condition
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in 6S/ Lean activities
- Identify ‘bottlenecks’ waste or safety risks and suggest practical improvements
- Ensure red-tag areas, boards and bay standards are maintained and up to date
Other Duties
- Support cross-functional teams as and when required
- Contribute to audits, compliance checks and improvement projects
- Perform any other reasonable duties in line with business needs
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- General Welding Level 2 Apprenticeship or equivalent welding experience (2-3 years)
- In house, Company weld test required
- · Experience in heavy vehicle/plant body building, welding, or mechanical fitting is advantage but not essential, (full training will be provided)
- Proficiency in use of hand/power tools
- Understanding of manufacturing environment and willingness to learn
- Ability to stand, walk and bend for extended periods of time
- High attention to detail with experience following designs and instructions
- Enjoy working under pressure and to tight deadlines whilst maintaining safety standards
- Able to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels
- Enthusiastic and committed to providing an outstanding product
- Flexible in approach and able to understand and follow instructions
- Self-motivated and willing to work within a team, strong collaboration skills
- Able to effectively ‘trouble shoot’ problems to resolve manufacturing obstacles
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week

From £17.00 per hour dependent on experience
