Full job description

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Catering/Retail Assistant to join our team. This role involves supporting food preparation, serving customers, and ensuring the smooth operation of our retail and catering services. The successful candidate will have a passion for food, excellent organisational skills, and a friendly demeanour to enhance the customer experience. Prior experience in a restaurant or catering environment is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop culinary skills and gain valuable retail experience within a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities

Assist with food preparation, ensuring all items meet safety and quality standards
Serve customers efficiently and courteously at retail counters or catering events
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the food preparation and serving areas in compliance with food safety regulations
Handle cash transactions accurately and operate POS systems
Support with stock replenishment, inventory checks, and organising displays to maximise sales potential
Upsell products where appropriate to enhance customer satisfaction and sales revenue
Manage time effectively during busy periods to ensure prompt service delivery
Follow health and safety procedures diligently to maintain a safe working environment for all staff and customers

Experience

Previous experience in a restaurant, catering, or retail environment is advantageous but not mandatory
Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices is desirable
Basic maths skills for handling cash transactions accurately
Familiarity with food preparation techniques or kitchen experience is beneficial
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Excellent communication skills with a friendly approach towards customers
Ability to work well under pressure during peak times and demonstrate good time management skills
