Working pattern: Monday – Thursday 7.5 hours, Friday 7 hours

Location: Abingdon

Contract type: Permanent or 3 month Fixed-term

At the heart of our College’s success is a simple but powerful objective: maintaining financial security. As our Financial Accountant, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring every financial transaction is accurate, transparent, and supports the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for ensuring that the College’s financial records fully and accurately reflect all financial activity, supporting robust decision-making and financial stability across the organisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

Ensuring accurate, timely financial records.
Managing reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and Fixed assets.
Supporting management accounts.
Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations
Preparing VAT returns and ensuring compliance.
Handling payroll accounting and payment allocations.
Maintaining and improving financial systems and controls.
Supporting audits and key reporting.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines technical accounting expertise with a proactive, problem-solving mindset:

Essential:

AAT Level 3 (or above) or equivalent accountancy qualification.
Strong Excel skills (including Pivot Tables and large data handling).
Experience in a busy finance environment with high attention to detail.
Confident using accounting systems and interpreting financial data.
Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills.

Desirable:

Experience with SAGE 200 (or similar).
Background in education or a similar sector.
Experience supporting or training non-finance colleagues.
A continuous improvement mindset.
