Kitchen Assistant / Cook (Minimum 30 hours per week)

The Role

We are looking for a reliable and caring Kitchen Assistant / Afternoon Cook to support our kitchen team at Barrington Lodge Nursing Home

This is a lighter, hands-on role focused on preparing and serving afternoon tea and evening meals, ensuring residents enjoy fresh, nutritious, and well-presented food.

Working Hours:
Monday to Friday - From 8:00 AM (flxible)

Sunday full day

What You Will Do

Prepare and serve light meals, evening meals, and refreshments
Assist in delivering a pleasant and homely dining experience for residents
Support with simple food preparation in line with dietary requirements
Ensure meals are served on time and to a good standard
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen at all times
Work closely with the main Chef and care team

Key Responsibilities

Follow food hygiene and safety standards (HACCP)
Support residents’ dietary needs (e.g. soft diets, vegetarian, allergies)
Keep kitchen areas clean, organised, and safe
Assist with stock rotation and basic kitchen organisation
Ensure a calm and friendly approach when interacting with residents

What We’re Looking For

Previous kitchen or catering experience preferred (care home experience is a plus)
Basic understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling
A positive, reliable, and flexible attitude
Good time management and organisation skills
Friendly and respectful approach towards residents and colleagues
Food Hygiene Level 2 (preferred, training can be provided)
