At HPS Maidenhead, the Profit Centre Manager is responsible for how the business performs. You’ll run the site as your own operation, with full control over sales, stock, pricing, people, and overall performance.
This is a hands-on role within a busy plumbing and heating merchant. You’ll be leading the team, working with trade customers, managing operations, and making the decisions that drive revenue and margin.

We’re part of one of the UK’s largest independent networks of plumbing and heating merchants, with over 310 sites nationwide. That gives you scale, buying power, and support when needed, but the day-to-day performance of the site sits with you and your team.This is effectively a business owner role, without the personal financial risk.
You’ll also be rewarded through our industry leading Profit Share. Unlike many merchant incentive schemes that rely on layered metrics, thresholds, or shifting targets year on year, our profit share is based on one thing: site profitability. If the site makes profit, you share in it.
Key Responsibilities:
You’ll be responsible for the full performance of the site, both operationally and commercially.
- Leading the day-to-day running of a plumbing and heating merchant
- Driving sales growth, customer acquisition, and margin performance
- Managing trade counter, warehouse, delivery, and admin functions
- Building and developing relationships with trade customers and key accounts
- Setting pricing, managing stock profile, and overseeing purchasing decisions
- Controlling costs, overheads, and overall site profitability
- Leading, developing, and holding the team accountable for performance
- Maintaining high standards across operations, safety, and presentation
- Identifying opportunities to grow the business and increase market share
What We’re Looking For:
This role suits someone who understands how a builders merchant or plumbing and heating merchant operates and is comfortable taking full ownership.
You might currently be:
- A strong Branch Assistant Manager within a plumbing & heating or builders merchant looking to step up
- A Senior Sales professional from a plumbing & heating environment with leadership responsibility
- A commercially strong Branch Manager within a plumbing and heating or builders merchant
You’ll bring
- Experience within a plumbing & heating merchant or builders merchant environment
- Strong commercial awareness across P&L, margin, pricing, and cost control
- Proven ability to drive sales growth and develop customer relationships
- Confidence leading and developing a team in a fast-paced environment
- A hands-on approach and willingness to stay close to the operation
- The ability to make decisions and take responsibility for outcomes
- A full UK driving licence
