Landmarks is an independent specialist day college for young people with learning disabilities and difficulties. The college offers a wide range of programmes that are tailored to each individual’s needs.

Landmarks operates from several sites across; Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, with our main site located in Eckington, S21 4EF.

Landmarks has several satellite provisions in Rotherham, Nottingham city Centre and a “real-life” hospitality and catering facility in Rainworth, Mansfield. These environments enable us to provide a range of personal and vocational training opportunities including:

Our staff are required to work on a range of different sites, including; college campuses, employer’s premises or communities local to your learners home - therefore willingness to travel is essential. There may be a requirement to transport learners in your own car, insurance implications are reimbursed. Mileage and expenses are provided for travel during the working day.

Job Purpose:

To promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and learner engagement through proactive, non physical and person centred approaches. The postholder will work with staff and learners to understand the reasons behind behaviour, reduce barriers to participation and help develop consistent, effective responses that improve outcomes for learners.

The role will support the development, implementation and review of positive behaviour support strategies across the college. It will include direct work with learners, coaching and guidance for staff and contribution to wider multi disciplinary planning.

Main Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include, but are not restricted to:

1. Learner support

· Work directly with learners who present with behavioural, emotional or SEMH related needs.

· Build positive, trusting professional relationships with learners to support emotional regulation, confidence and engagement.

· Help identify triggers, patterns, motivators and unmet needs that may affect behaviour or participation.

· Support learners to develop coping strategies, self awareness, resilience and appropriate ways to communicate need.

· Contribute to risk reduction through early intervention and well planned support.

2. Positive Behaviour Support planning

· Support the development and review of Positive Behaviour Support plans and related guidance documents.

· Ensure support strategies are personalised, proactive and based on the needs, strengths and preferences of the learner.

· Promote approaches that reduce anxiety, increase predictability and improve quality of life.

· Monitor the effectiveness of agreed strategies and recommend changes where needed.

· Maintain accurate, professional and timely records of support, interventions and outcomes.

3. Staff support and coaching

· Provide practical advice, modelling and coaching to staff on de escalation, co regulation and positive behaviour approaches.

· Help staff understand behaviour as communication and respond in a calm, consistent and respectful way.

· Support staff teams to implement agreed strategies consistently across different environments.

· Contribute to staff training and development in areas linked to behaviour, SEMH and relational practice.

· Encourage reflective practice and help teams evaluate what is working well and where further support is needed.

4. Multi disciplinary working

· Work closely with tutors, LSAs, therapists, welfare staff and managers to ensure joined up support for learners.

· Contribute to reviews, planning meetings and case discussions as required.

· Liaise with families, carers and relevant professionals where appropriate and agreed.

· Support referrals to wider services when learner need indicates that further intervention may be required.

· Contribute to a culture of inclusion, safety and high aspiration for all learners.

5. College wide responsibilities

· Promote the college’s values and commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

· Support a consistent and restorative approach to behaviour across the college.

· Contribute to the development of systems and practice that improve learner wellbeing and reduce incidents over time.

· Participate in training, supervision, team meetings and professional development as required.

· Undertake other duties appropriate to the level of the post.
