Full job description

About the Role

Melville & Sons is looking for a hardworking, reliable, and enthusiastic Bar Back to support our bar team in delivering exceptional customer service. This is a fast-paced role that is essential to ensuring the bar runs smoothly during service.

Key Responsibilities

Keep the bar fully stocked with beverages, glassware, ice, garnishes, and other supplies.

Collect and wash used glassware, ensuring a constant supply of clean glasses.

Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the bar, storage areas, and service stations.

Empty bins and dispose of waste safely and efficiently.

Assist bartenders with preparing garnishes and restocking throughout service.

Receive and organise deliveries, rotating stock where appropriate.

Support opening and closing procedures, including setting up and cleaning down the bar.

Ensure all health, safety, and hygiene standards are followed.

Respond promptly to requests from bartenders and managers to keep service running efficiently.

Provide excellent support to the wider front-of-house team when required.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Physically capable of lifting and moving stock safely.

Reliable, punctual, and flexible with working hours, including evenings and weekends.

Desirable

Previous experience in a bar, pub, restaurant, or hospitality environment.

Knowledge of stock rotation and basic bar operations.

Understanding of food hygiene and health & safety practices.

Personal Qualities

Energetic and motivated.

Organised and attentive to detail.
