The Winking Owl is a high-volume restaurant and bar in the centre of Aviemore.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Sous Chef to join our dynamic culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for food, and extensive experience in kitchen operations.
As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will assist the Head Chef in managing daily food production, supervising junior staff, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality are maintained. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary expertise within a professional hospitality environment.

Duties
- Assist the Head Chef in planning and preparing high-quality dishes in line with restaurant standards
- Supervise and manage kitchen staff, including training and mentoring team members
- Oversee food production processes to ensure efficiency, consistency, and presentation standards are met
- Coordinate food preparation activities to meet service times and customer expectations
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene standards
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with stock ordering to ensure smooth kitchen operations
- Support the development of new menu items and seasonal specials
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained properly and report any issues promptly
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery during busy periods
Skills
- Proven supervising experience within a busy kitchen environment
- Extensive knowledge of food production, preparation, and cooking techniques
- Strong team management skills with the ability to motivate staff effectively
- Excellent culinary skills with a focus on quality presentation and flavour balance
- Solid understanding of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management
- Previous restaurant experience demonstrating versatility across various cuisines
- Leadership qualities with the ability to organise tasks efficiently under pressure
- Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and front-of-house staff
- Experience in hospitality settings with a focus on serving high standards of customer satisfaction
