KEYFORT Group are delighted to share an exciting opportunity as part of the expansion of our new Education Service, developed in partnership with Newcastle Council. This role marks a key step in our journey to provide innovative, person-centred education for young people with complex needs.

Vacancy Job Title; Learning Support Assistant

Vacancy Location; Battle Hill, North Tyneside (Non School Alternative Provision)

Salary / Rate of Pay; £13.65 per hour

Contract type; Supply contract -working term time hours only (39 weeks of the year)

Role Specifics; We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to support a male student within our Alternative Education department in Battle Hill. This is a 3:1 support role for a student who presents with high levels of behaviours of concern, so the successful candidate must be confident, calm, resilient, and able to follow behaviour support strategies consistently. Due to the nature of the support required and the student’s assessed needs, we are seeking male applicants for this role.

As our Non School, Alternative Provision grows over the coming months, we are committed to offering opportunities for progression. Our aim is to increase part time hours (optional) and, transition those who join us on zero-hour contracts into permanent full time roles wherever possible, providing long-term security and development for our staff.

This is a unique opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant who is seeking a change of pace from the traditional classroom or busy SEN setting.

Unlike typical LSA roles that involve supporting multiple students across a class, this position focuses on dedicated one-to-one support within a one-to-one classroom or home tutoring environment. This allows for a more personalised, consistent, and meaningful approach to learning, where you can truly make a lasting impact on an individual student’s educational journey.

This is a non-traditional Learning Support Assistant role that requires adaptability, creativity, and the ability to support education, communication, and social development in an individualised way. You will work closely with a Qualified Teacher to support learning activities linked to the young person’s EHCP targets, create visual resources, and use communication approaches that support both verbal and non-verbal interaction.

Collaboration will be key: You will liaise with our SEND Lead and Alternative Education Coordinator, the young person’s care team, family, and external professionals, where appropriate, to ensure a holistic, person-centred approach. Experience supporting young people with complex needs and behaviours of concern would be beneficial. Applicants who already hold an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service would be ideal.

Essential Criteria

Experience supporting children or young people in education, care, or SEN settings, specifically those who experience Autism, Profound Learning Difficulties, or complex challenging behaviour
A naturally positive and resilient attitude that fosters a safe, supportive, and engaging environment
Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and practices
Ability to adapt and differentiate support for young people with SEN
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable Criteria

Additional qualifications/training in SEN support
Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies
Experience creating or using visual aids/alternative communication systems
Full UK driving licence and access to own car
Candidated to have a current DBS certificate registered on the update service

Role Responsibilities

Support a student on a 1:1 basis in their learning and daily routine, under the direction of a Qualified Teacher
Deliver high-quality, safe, and person-centred support
Create resources and activities that are adapted to the individual’s EHCP goals
Completion of associated admin, cleaning of the classroom environment, setting up of learning materials for learning
Promote independence, communication, and social interaction in a creative, engaging way
Work closely with families, care staff, and external professionals to ensure a joined-up approach
Safeguard the young person at all times and act in their best interests
