TURPENTYNE ART CLASSES & ART SUPPLY IS CURRENTLY SEEKING A

INSTRUCTOR OF DRAWING AND PAINTING, TO JOIN OUR TEAM IN WHITLEY BAY

Instructors must be skilled and experienced in a wide range of art mediums, including soft pastel, oil pastel, watercolour, acrylic, and oil painting. We accept a wide range of qualifications and courses relating to art and teaching. All applicants will be expected to furnish a well-rounded portfolio of artwork, demonstrating their skills in the listed mediums. The ideal candidate will have realistic drawing and painting skills as well as an appreciation for cartooning and animation.

We are seeking a candidate who is honest, reliable, organized, and punctual. Our courses are popular and booked in advance, so it is imperative that classes run on time every week. We require teachers who can be relied upon to run classes on their own and be able to take initiative when things don’t go as planned.

Candidates must be able to deliver highly structured instruction based upon our curriculum and methodology targeting the needs and interests of a variety of different ages and abilities. Candidates must be confident in their own ability to independently teach a class of up to 8 children or 10 adults, with ages ranging from 4 to 94. Candidates will be expected to follow our studio policies and procedures whilst conducting themselves with professionalism when dealing with students and their parents.

When teaching, personality is important! The ideal candidate is happy to create art and is excited to share their knowledge with students who are anxious to learn.

Expected weekly working hours are Expected term-time weekly working hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 3:45-7:00pm (beginning 16th April) and Saturdays 8:45am-5:00pm. This schedule is anticipated to be consistent, but changes may be required if studio circumstances change substantially.

Additional hours for Adults Courses will be scheduled subject to the instructor’s availability.

Work during school breaks. Work during school breaks may be available but is not guaranteed. During school breaks we offer workshops, which can range from 4-8 hours per day Monday-Friday. Staff may request school breaks off, but it is expected that staff be available for some workshops throughout the year.

Teachers may also be called upon to supply teach the classes of another instructor when an illness arises.

IF YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR ALL OF THE HOURS LISTED OR CANNOT COMMIT TO THE STUDIO FOR AT LEAST ONE FULL YEAR, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY.

At Turpentyne we offer a fun, challenging, and creative work environment with a tight knit and friendly staff. Break room with coffee, tea, and snacks provided for staff. The immediate family of our studio staff receive free class tuition. Staff receive 50% discount on purchases from our Gosforth Art Supply Shop.

Pay: £13.5-15 per hour DOE Approximate Term-Time hours: 21+ hrs/wk

Annual merit-based pay increases

This position will train ASAP with regular hours commencing in September. Workshop hours may be available over the summer holidays if the candidate is interested.
