Location: Agile, Forth Banks, Newcastle and homeworking. (Saturday working is also included in the role on a rota basis)

The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Criminal Justice Department as a Unit Supervisor.
This is a rare opportunity to carry out a diverse and interesting supervisory role providing capability across a range of criminal justice services within our Criminal Justice system.
The role requires the effective management of teams within the Criminal Justice Unit and the delivery of Criminal Justice functions and services to a high standard and in compliance with legislation and agreed procedures. It is necessary to liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service, the Courts, Defence Lawyers and other Criminal Justice Partners as well as Police Officers and their Supervision.
What you’ll do
Supervise staff and performance to ensure that work in relation to the submission of evidential files is completed in a timely fashion and in line with the national file standard, case progression and local instructions.
Advise and support staff and operational officers in respect of the presentation of an evidential file for each relevant stage in the Criminal Justice process or support functions, including the content of the national file standard, disclosure responsibilities, completion of accurate disclosure schedules, protection of personal data and bad character evidence.
Liaise with Crown Prosecution Service, Area Commands and external agencies ensuring that all data is transferred/provided across a range of IT systems and be a point of contact for guidance on file transfer/document conversion to operational staff.
Act as the first escalation point for case progression or non-compliance with a required action to complete business recovery and allow cases to progress through the Criminal Justice process.
Provide support to Police Presenting Officers/CPS and liaise with defendants/Criminal Justice Partners to progress cases and enable decisions on progression of case to be made without further hearings.

What you’ll bring
Essential
Significant experience of supervising a multi- disciplined team across a range of functions in a complex environment achieving performance targets.
A Levels/ILEX or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
Ability to achieve performance targets across a range of different environments with competing priorities.
Evidence of using own initiative to manage a situation where precedents are not in place and make decisions in live time.
Ability to communicate effectively across a range of staff and supporting partners at different levels within an organisation.
Influence behaviour with communication style, presentation and delivery across a range of staff.
Desirable:
Knowledge and experience of the Criminal Justice System Experience of delivering results in a challenging environment.

Terms of appointment
This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
