Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Floor Layer to join our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining various types of flooring in residential and commercial properties. This role requires a strong understanding of construction principles, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency with hand tools and power tools. The ideal applicant will have experience in carpentry and construction painting, with the ability to interpret schematics and work safely on-site.
Responsibilities
- Prepare subfloors and surfaces for installation by cleaning, levelling, and repairing as necessary
- Measure, cut, lay, and secure different flooring materials including wood, vinyl, tiles, or carpets
- Utilise hand tools such as chisels, hammers, saws, and specialised flooring tools to complete installations
- Operate power tools safely and efficiently during installation and repair tasks
- Follow schematics and technical drawings to ensure precise fitting of flooring materials
- Perform construction painting tasks as required to finish the project professionally
- Maintain a clean work environment by organising tools and disposing of waste appropriately
- Collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure project timelines are met
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction or flooring installation preferred
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in flooring work
- Knowledge of carpentry techniques and ability to interpret schematics or technical drawings
- Experience with construction painting is advantageous
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Good physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in construction or carpentry are desirable but not essential
