People are living longer and we’re excited by the opportunities this brings to help people live their best lives. We’re here for everyone who wants to make the most of their time on the planet and leave it a little better than they found it – however grand or humble their ambitions.
We help people live their best lives. We help them with the big stuff, for the moments that matter: Pensions, Savings, Investments. At Aegon, we strive in creating a diverse organisation that plays a meaningful role in driving greater equity, inclusion and belonging.
We’re looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our team, supporting the ongoing development and governance of Aegon’s platform-based investment proposition. This is a strategic role where you’ll provide high-quality legal and technical advice across a range of retail investment products, including ISAs, General Investment Accounts (GIAs), and pensions.
Acting as a trusted adviser, you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure legal and regulatory considerations are embedded at every stage of product design and delivery. You’ll play a key role in enabling sustainable growth, managing risk effectively, and supporting good customer outcomes within a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities include:
Provide expert legal and technical advice to support the development, enhancement and governance of platform-based propositions (ISAs, GIAs and pensions)
Interpret legislative and regulatory developments, advising on their impact to products and platform services
Review and support the creation of customer-facing documentation including terms and conditions, pension scheme rules and application processes
Provide legal guidance on complex disputes relating to platform, pensions and investment products
Support the business with ad hoc legal queries, particularly relating to platform and proposition matters
Contribute to wider Group Legal and Company Secretariat priorities where required
Ensure alignment with Consumer Duty requirements, promoting good customer outcomes in product design and delivery
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, influencing strategic and commercial decision-making
Manage relationships with external legal advisers and key external stakeholders, including regulators where required
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
Qualified solicitor or barrister (Scotland and/or England)
Experience providing legal advice, either in-house or in private practice
Experience or knowledge of financial services, investments or pensions (ideal but not essential)
Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance legal risk with business needs
Confidence communicating complex legal matters in a clear, practical way
Experience working with a range of stakeholders and influencing decision-making
A proactive, pragmatic and solution-focused approach
The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
What’s in it for you?
We’re serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place. We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we’ll put in 9%. If you decide to contribute more, we’ll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that’s 7% from you and 13% from us).
A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance
36 days leave per year (including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time)
We also offer private medical cover, life assurance, critical illness cover, enhanced parental leave and a variety of lifestyle benefits to help our employees live their best lives, including retail discount vouchers, cycle2work scheme, subsidised restaurant and online GP appointments.
