Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Housekeeper to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within various premises, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment for clients and visitors alike. Previous experience in commercial cleaning or janitorial services is highly desirable. Essential Criteria:
· Must have a good command of written and spoken English and a valid work permit.
· Ability to communicate with the residents.
· Good General Health in order to undertake a high standard of cleanliness in the Home.
· Good organisational skills.
· Ability to communicate and listen and ability to work with other staff.
· Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative.
· High standard of personal presentation and attention to detail.
Housekeeping Duties:
· At beginning of shift present yourself fit for work in uniform. Collect trolley and cleaning materials from locked cupboard.
· Trolley and cleaning solutions never to be left unattended.
· Daily cleaning of bedrooms, en-suites, dining rooms, lounges, treatment room, sluice rooms, bathrooms, toilets, offices, lifts, corridors and nurses stations/reception.
· Bathrooms, toilets and sluices all cleaned with appropriate cleaning solutions daily. Refill hand wash and towels. Ensure wet floor signs always used to alert staff/patients to hazard of wet floor.
· Lounges cleaned and tidied first thing each morning.
· Dining room – deep clean weekly and wash floor daily.
· Bedrooms – wipe all hard surfaces daily, tidy materials and refill hand towels. Deep clean bedrooms according to rota (and after each patient).
· Vacuum carpet or mop floors.
· Ensures curtains are washed/dry cleaned after each patient and at least once per year.
· Any other domestic duties which contribute to the wellbeing of the residents and the smooth running of the Home.
· Ensures a high standard of cleanliness is maintained at all times in areas of responsibility.
· Continues the Company’s policy of being polite and courteous to all visitors and professionals visiting the Home.
· Adhere to all COSHH regulations and is compliant with the Company’s Health and Safety Procedures.
· Complies with all infection control measures operating within the Home.
· Wears protective clothing (PPE) as required.
· Ensures proper disposal of all waste materials.
· Adheres to the fire and accident prevention policy of the Home.
· Takes responsibility for the protection of vulnerable adults and reports to management where they consider a person has caused harm or posed risk of harm to any patient.
· Observes confidentiality at all times.
Laundry Duties:
· Maintaining all areas of the laundry, including laundry processing equipment and linen cupboards in a clean, hygienic and tidy condition.
· Ensuring that all cleaning equipment and materials are maintained in a safe, clean and efficient condition and reporting to the Head Housekeeper where any item of such equipment requires repair or replacement.
· Ensuring that all chemicals used in the laundry room are replenished as required and that the Head Housekeeper is made aware of the need to order chemical stocks to ensure the continuous operation of laundry processing.
· Process all household linen and residents’ personal clothing ensuring that items are processed at the correct temperatures according to the type of fabric and that all items are thoroughly cleansed and stain free.
· Ensuring that any items that require disinfection are processed correctly and that infection control policies are strictly adhered to including the correct method of handling items that have been soiled with body products including the use of personal protective equipment.
· Ensure that all items of household linen and residents’ personal clothing are ironed and pressed as required to maintain a high standard of finished articles.
· Ensure that all items of personal clothing and household linen are in a good state of repair and bringing to the attention of the Head Housekeeper or Manager where any items require replacement. Check that personal clothing is clearly labelled with the residents’ name. Returning all household linens and residents’ personal clothing to linen cupboards or the residents’ bedrooms as appropriate.
Laundry Procedures:
When handling and/or moving laundry around the Care Home the following procedure must be followed:
· Staff must wear protective clothing whilst handling and/or transporting laundry around the Home.
· Gloves used for laundry purposes must be of the same standard/quality as those for care related tasks.
· Bedding must be removed from a Resident’s bed with care, avoiding the creation of dust and placed in the appropriate, designated laundry bag which must be place directly outside the bedroom.
· Soiled laundry must only be transported around the Home whilst contained in the designated laundry bags.
· Laundry bags are colour coded in line with colour coded equipment policy. Laundry contaminated with blood or body fluids must be placed in water-soluble "Red" bags before being placed into the designated laundry bags.
· Water-soluble bags with contaminated with blood or body fluids must be placed directly into the washing machine and washed on ‘sluice cycle’.
· Laundry staff must not empty bags of linen onto the floor to sort the linen into categories – this presents an unnecessary risk of infection.
· When staff have finished dealing with laundry, protective clothing must be removed and placed in the clinical waste bins.
· Staff must wash their hands after the removal of protective clothing.
General responsibilities:
· Ensure the economic use of all supplies and equipment. Maintaining all these resources in a satisfactory condition and reporting any faults/breakages.
· Complete and maintain relevant paperwork.
· Ensures familiar with the policies of the Home and the use of literature available in the Home. Attends internal and external courses when requested by management.
· Completes all relevant training/e-training and e-policy updates in line with management requests.
· Report all accidents, complaints and defects in equipment to the Head Housekeeper.
· Ensure the safe keeping of residents' belongings and valuables in accordance with company policy.
· Do not accept gifts from patients or witness a patient’s will.
· Take responsibility for the safeguarding of adults
· Participation in staff meetings and training activities
· All duties must be carried out to comply with:
