Overview
SynGenSys is a cutting-edge biotechnology company focused on developing innovative solutions for the design and manufacture of next-generation biomedicines. By leveraging synthetic genetic systems, we aim to improve biomanufacturing processes and enhance the safety and efficacy of cell and gene therapies, and mRNA vaccines.
We are growing our lab-based team and are looking to hire two highly motivated Scientist/Senior Scientist(s). In this role, you will work at the forefront of synthetic biology and biopharmaceutical development, testing novel genetic parts in industry-relevant biomanufacturing processes. You will be responsible for generating high-quality experimental data, contributing to project planning, interpreting results, and communicating your findings clearly. The role is primarily lab-based, with time for supporting documentation and broader project activities.
We are open to candidates at either a Scientist or Senior Scientist level. While the core responsibilities and technical requirements are shared across both roles, Senior scientist candidates will have a deeper scientific understanding, and a higher level of independence, project ownership, and team contribution. Additional responsibilities may include providing informal mentorship and day-to-day scientific guidance to junior team members, as well as supporting customer engagement activities and the commercialisation of SynGenSys’s technology.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments involving vector construction, mammalian cell culture, stable pool generation, and protein expression
- Contribute to project planning, including experimental design, scheduling, and prioritisation in collaboration with the team
- Generate robust, reproducible, and well-documented experimental data to support project objectives
- Analyse and interpret data, drawing meaningful conclusions and identifying follow-up experiments
- Prepare clear and concise presentations of experimental results for internal team meetings and project reviews
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, SOPs, and supporting documentation in line with company standards
Qualifications
- BSc/MSc or equivalent in cell biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, or a closely related discipline, with relevant experience in a commercial setting
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and protein/RNA quantification techniques
- Ability to generate high-quality, reproducible experimental data with attention to detail and strong record-keeping habits
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly to a cross-functional team
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret experimental data and contribute to discussions.
Desirable Skills
- PhD in cell biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, or a closely related discipline
- Experience with CHO cell culture and stable cell line generation
- Familiarity with synthetic biology, genetic parts design, or regulatory element characterisation
- Knowledge of monoclonal antibody development pipelines or GMP-adjacent working practices
- A collaborative and proactive approach to developing and improving processes
- A proven track record of project delivery, ideally in a commercial setting
- Experience managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
At SynGenSys, we foster a collaborative, inclusive, and fast-paced environment where innovation thrives. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to impactful research that has real-world applications in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and medicine. As part of our dynamic team, you will be expected to grow professionally and personally, while making meaningful contributions to the company's goals.
