Drawing & Technical Assistant
Burlington Stone is one of the UK’s leading natural stone manufacturers, supplying roofing slate, walling stone, architectural stone, flooring, paving and bespoke slate products across the UK and internationally. With a heritage dating back over 180 years, we’re known for producing high-quality Cumbrian slate and natural stone for a wide range of projects, from private homes and heritage restorations through to major architectural and commercial developments.
We are looking for a technically minded and detail-focused person to join the Burlington Stone team in a varied CAD, estimating and technical support role. The role of Drawing Office and Technical Assistant is to support production and the wider business. This will include preparing estimates, reading architectural drawings, assisting with CAD details, supporting technical queries, and helping develop 3D CAD, BIM and CNC/CAD-CAM capability.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone organised, technically capable and ambitious who wants to build a long-term career within a specialist British manufacturing business. This role would suit a CAD technician, drawing office assistant, junior architectural technician, construction college leaver or early-career candidate with strong technical ability.
40 hours a week Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5pm
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Experience using AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, measurements or technical information
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- Strong numeracy skills and confidence working with measurements, quantities and costs
- Clear communication skills
- Willingness to learn about natural stone, slate production and construction detailing.
Desirable
- Experience producing estimates, quotations, take-offs or material schedules
- Experience using 3D CAD software such as Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, SketchUp or similar
- Experience with BIM processes, Revit families, IFC files or BIM-ready product information
- Experience with CNC programming, CAD/CAM software or machine programming
- Experience producing fabrication drawings, cutting schedules or manufacturing information
- Previous experience within construction, architecture, manufacturing, stone, cladding, façades, roofing, joinery or metalwork
