We are looking for a Senior or Principal Consultant Transport Planner to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical and project management experience who is looking to take ownership of projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the growth of a dynamic consultancy.
The Role
As a Senior / Principal Consultant Transport Planner, you will lead and manage a wide range of transport planning projects, providing strategic advice to clients and delivering high-quality technical work across development and infrastructure schemes.
You will play a key role in project delivery, client management, mentoring junior colleagues, and supporting business development activities.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the preparation and delivery of technical reports including:
- Transport Assessments
- Travel Plans
- Access Appraisals
- Environmental Statement chapters
- Planning representations and Local Plan submissions
- Managing and reviewing transport data analysis and modelling outputs
- Developing sustainable transport strategies and supporting master planning projects
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, local authorities, and stakeholders
Managing project programmes, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery
Providing technical review and quality assurance of project work
Identifying and resolving complex transport and development challenges
Mentoring and supporting junior team members
Supporting business development activities including fee proposals and bids
About You
We are looking for someone who is technically strong, commercially aware, and passionate about delivering high-quality transport planning solutions.
Essential Skills & Experience
Significant experience within development-related transport planning
Strong understanding of UK planning and transport policy including:
- NPPF
- PPG
- Manual for Streets
- LTN 1/20
- Local Transport Plans
Experience managing projects, clients, budgets, and programmes
Excellent report writing and communication skills
Strong analytical and technical capability including:
- Excel
- Junctions software
- LinSig
Ability to review technical work with excellent attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Proactive and commercially aware approach
Commitment to professional development
Desirable
- Chartered, working towards or interested in working towards Chartership with a relevant professional body such as:
- Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation
- Transport Planning Society
Experience leading major development projects
Experience attending public inquiries or hearings
GIS experience
