Full job description

Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Accounts Assistant to join our practice team. The successful candidate will support the preparation of client accounts and tax work, assist with managing deadlines, and provide guidance to junior team members where required.

Duties

Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and small limited companies
Assist with bookkeeping, VAT returns, and management accounts.
Prepare and review trial balances, nominal ledgers, and reconciliations.
Liaise with clients to request records, resolve queries, and provide updates.
Assist with workflow management and meeting filing deadlines.
Review work prepared by junior staff and provide support and training where needed.
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax legislation.
Use accounting software and cloud-based systems efficiently.

Skills and experience

Previous experience in a practice accountancy role.
Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and VAT.
Experience with tax return preparation is desirable.
Good understanding of accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, TaxCalc, or similar.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to deal confidently with clients.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
AAT qualified, part-qualified, or equivalent experience preferred.
