Job Title: Associate Lecturer in English - Sessional

Location: North Harbour and Highbury Campus

Salary: Full Time Equivalent £30,248.30 - £44,298.68 per annum

Hours of work: up to 35 hours per week (inclusive of teaching and prep time), up to 52 weeks per year, Permanent

About the role:

Deliver engaging GCSE English resit lessons to 16–19-year-olds, using practical and vocationally relevant contexts to motivate learners with low attainment and confidence. Manage behaviour effectively through clear expectations, consistent routines, and positive strategies that create a focused learning environment. Build strong student relationships to develop resilience and literacy skills, providing targeted feedback and monitoring progress. Collaborate with vocational teams and support services to address barriers to learning, improve attendance, maintain accurate records, and prepare learners for GCSE success through structured revision and intervention.

Please note, this is a Sessional role and there are no guaranteed hours attached to the post.

Key Responsibilities:

To deliver English functional skills and GCSE qualifications to 16–19-year-old construction and vocational learners alongside their vocational studies at our North Harbour campus. This role will include teaching students with high needs and SEN.
Providing constructive feedback and support to students to help them improve their skills and achieve learning outcomes
Collaborating with colleagues on curriculum design, program development and quality assurance initiatives
Represent COPC with the upmost professionalism with every interaction
Handling of sensitive information with confidentiality and adherence to data protection regulations
Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes diversity, equality and respect among all members of the college community.
Strong behaviour management and classroom control
Re-engagement of reluctant learners
Contextualising English within vocational trades
Building confidence and resilience in literacy
Progress tracking and targeted intervention

To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you:

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Problem solving abilities in order to resolve issues independently or collaboratively with colleagues
Previous experience in a similar role or a lengthy background within English (including GCSE)
The ability to manage behaviour and set high expectations for students
English qualifications are a must
Level 5 Certificate in Education or equivalent or be willing to work towards
