Full job description

Location: Halesowen/West Midlands – office based, with periodic travel to other office locations as required
Salary: £35,000–£42,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Permanent, full-time

About the role

We are looking for an Insurance Compliance Officer to join our growing business and support the continued development of our compliance and people-related processes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around two years’ experience in a compliance role, ideally within insurance or financial services, who is looking to broaden their knowledge and progress their career.

The position is office based in Halesowen/West Midlands. The successful candidate will also be required to visit other office locations periodically, or as and when business needs require.

The role will primarily focus on regulatory compliance, while also providing support with selected HR activities, including staff training, employee records, onboarding and the maintenance of internal policies.

You will work closely with experienced colleagues and senior management, receiving support and guidance as you develop your knowledge of insurance regulation, compliance monitoring, Consumer Duty, product governance and practical HR processes.

Key responsibilities

Compliance responsibilities

Your compliance responsibilities will include:

Supporting the delivery of the Compliance Monitoring Plan.
Assisting with file reviews, thematic reviews and other compliance monitoring activity.
Recording findings, actions and agreed completion dates.
Helping to track remedial actions through to completion.
Supporting the maintenance of compliance policies, procedures and registers.
Assisting with Consumer Duty monitoring and the assessment of customer outcomes.
Supporting product governance and fair value review activity.
Reviewing customer communications and business documents from a compliance perspective.
Assisting with broker and third-party due diligence and oversight.
Supporting complaints monitoring and the identification of trends and root causes.
Helping to maintain regulatory breach, financial crime and conflicts of interest records.
Monitoring regulatory updates and helping communicate relevant changes to the business.
Preparing compliance management information and reports.
Providing day-to-day compliance support to colleagues across the business.
Visiting other office locations to support compliance monitoring, training, reviews or other business requirements.

Training and HR support

Your people-related responsibilities will include:

Supporting the development and delivery of compliance and professional development training.
Maintaining staff training and continuing professional development records.
Assisting with the onboarding and induction of new employees.
Helping maintain employee records, training files and other HR documentation.
Supporting the review and maintenance of employee policies and procedures.
Assisting with probation reviews, annual appraisals and performance review processes.
Monitoring completion of mandatory training and following up on outstanding requirements.
Supporting recruitment administration, including arranging interviews and preparing documentation.
Assisting with holiday, absence and sickness record administration.
Providing general administrative support on employee-related matters.
Helping ensure that employee information is handled confidentially and in accordance with data protection requirements.

The role will not initially be responsible for providing specialist employment law advice or managing complex employee relations matters. External or senior support will be available where required.

Experience and knowledge

The successful candidate should have:

Around two years’ experience in a compliance, risk, audit or regulatory support role.
Experience within general insurance or financial services would be advantageous.
A basic understanding of FCA regulation and the importance of delivering good customer outcomes.
An interest in developing knowledge of HR and employee-related processes.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and an ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
The ability to organise work and manage competing priorities.
Confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
A willingness to learn and develop their regulatory and HR knowledge.
The confidence to ask questions and raise concerns when appropriate.
The ability and willingness to travel to other office locations when required.

Detailed knowledge of all areas of insurance compliance or HR is not required, as training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.

Qualifications

A relevant insurance, compliance, financial services or HR qualification would be helpful but is not essential.

Support may be provided towards suitable professional qualifications, such as those offered by the Chartered Insurance Institute, International Compliance Association or Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
