As we embark on an ambitious technology transformation programme, we are seeking an exceptional Senior Technology Lead to work directly with our Chief Information Officer (CIO) and senior leadership team to redefine how technology services are delivered across UCL.
This is a rare opportunity to influence the future direction of technology within a globally renowned institution, leading the design of modern operating models, organisational structures and service delivery approaches that will support UCL's strategic ambitions for years to come.
- Develop and lead a future-state technology operating model for UCL.
- Create a strategic roadmap for technology and organisational transformation.
- Advise the CIO and leadership team on technology strategy, organisational effectiveness and service improvement.
- Lead reviews of technology services, structures and operating models.
- Design future organisational structures, capabilities and governance arrangements.
- Support the integration, alignment and potential consolidation of technology teams and services.
- Improve technology service delivery, user experience and operational performance.
- Simplify processes and reduce organisational complexity.
- Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, resilience and value for money.
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders across UCL.
- Influence and support complex change programmes.
- Produce high-quality recommendations, reports and presentations for executive audiences and governance bodies.
You are a strategic technology leader with a track record of delivering large-scale transformation in complex environments.
You will bring:
✔ Significant experience leading technology transformation and organisational change programmes.
✔ Proven success developing and implementing technology operating models and service redesign initiatives.
✔ Experience designing and delivering transformation roadmaps across large organisations.
✔ Strong understanding of technology governance, service management and organisational effectiveness.
✔ Experience advising senior executives and influencing strategic decision-making.
✔ Demonstrable success improving service performance, operational efficiency and value for money.
✔ Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills.
✔ Ability to navigate complexity, ambiguity and organisational change with confidence.
Please note: This role requires substantial hands-on technology leadership experience. Applicants must have a strong technical/IT background, qualifications and a proven track record of leading technology functions, technology transformation and service delivery within complex organisations. Candidates whose experience is primarily organisational change, management consulting or business transformation, without significant technology leadership expertise, are unlikely to be shortlisted.
- Experience within higher education, research-intensive institutions or similarly complex public-sector environments.
- Technology consulting or digital transformation advisory experience.
- Experience supporting organisational restructuring, mergers or service integration programmes.
- Professional certifications such as ITIL, TOGAF, MSP, PRINCE2, Agile or Lean Six Sigma.
Salary for this role is £120k +. Appointment will depend on experience.
