About us

Invictus UK 2027 is a charity and delivery organisation for Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, taking place in July 2027 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Sandwell Aquatics Centre. Founded by Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex in 2014, the Invictus Games uses adaptive sport to support the recovery of Wounded, Injured, and Sick (WIS) service personnel and veterans.

Birmingham 2027 will bring together 550 competitors from over 25 nations across 12 sports, including Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Esports, Indoor Rowing, Laser Run, Pickleball, Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Swimming, Wheelchair Basketball, and Wheelchair Rugby.

The Games are about more than competition. Success is measured in every step forward, every challenge faced, every barrier overcome. Every throw, stride, and lift is a victory.

Our mission is to celebrate the unconquered spirit of WIS service personnel and veterans, deliver an outstanding Games, and create lasting social impact across Birmingham and the Midlands.

Through our Impact Programme, we will create recovery opportunities for thousands of WIS and their families, while delivering long-term benefits for Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Birmingham sits at the heart of this story, from life-saving care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham to rehabilitation at the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre and support at Fisher House, with many competitors returning to the place that supported them.

The role

We are looking for and experienced manager to join our fantastic team at Invictus UK 2027 and as part of our social impact strategy are keen to make some appointments from the Birmingham and West Midlands area.

In this role you will be responsible for Regional Stakeholder Management.

This role is pivotal in engaging with, informing and collaborating with key stakeholders in the public, private and charity sectors. This will primarily be enabled through the initiation and drive of a regional taskforce in collaboration with WMCA, WMGC, Birmingham City Council, UB22, Chamber of Commerce and others.

Based in our Birmingham office you will lead on stakeholder and engagement activity within Birmingham and the wider Midlands area, developing and delivering our stakeholder and engagement strategy with implementation through the taskforce structure. This is a high-impact role where your ability to build partnerships, communicate effectively and influence stakeholders will support the overall successful delivery of the Games.

The post holder will work across the organisation, working with the communications, commercial, impact, sustainability, sport competition, and operational delivery teams; acting as an interface between their work and key external stakeholders. Your ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes and communicate with clarity to both internal and external stakeholders will be essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Set up, drive and deliver through the regional taskforce.
Build and nurture key relationships to ensure our stakeholders are informed, involved, and invested in our work.
Develop and deliver effective engagement strategies that foster strong working relationships.
Working with the Communications Team, support communications delivery to key regional stakeholders, facilitate meetings and presentations, delivering regional comms in line with strategic communications plan.
Support commercial delivery work, including developing briefing events for locally based businesses and wider stakeholders with the commercial team; and support wider sponsor activation activities which could involve wider regional locations, working with the commercial team
Resolve stakeholder and engagement issues and conflicts that may arise, mitigate risks, and provide oversight information to the Invictus team to support risk management.
Engage with government and third sector partners who may be able to deliver value-add activities
Work in close collaboration with the Sport Competition and Operations teams on requirements for the venue planning phases and inclusions needed for event delivery.
Manage risk management and resolution at Games time for stakeholder related issues.

Qualifications

Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field (Desirable)

Experience

Previous experience in a similar role (Essential)
Proven track record of bringing diverse groups of stakeholders together for a common aim and to deliver tangible objectives (Essential)
Ability to navigate competing priorities and conflicting stakeholder interests to achieve outcomes
Proven track record of project management, involving multiple stakeholders and delivery partners (Essential)
Understanding of major events (Desirable)
Experience of working within a complex governance environment (Essential)
Ability to identify, assess and manage stakeholder risks and issues (Essential)

Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation (Essential)
Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly develop, an understanding of the stakeholder landscape relevant to Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 across Birmingham and the West Midlands (Essential)
Strong influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to secure commitment without direct authority (Essential)
Ability to prepare high-quality briefings, reports and presentations for senior audiences (Essential)
Working knowledge of Smartsheets (Desirable)

This is a full time, fixed term role to 30 September 2027.

The salary for this position is £50k per annum.

This role shall be based at our Birmingham office and flexible, hybrid working arrangements are available with the Organisation but with an expectation of 3 days in office / on site rising as we head to Games time.

This role may be considered as a secondment.
