Full job description

The Role

As part of our bookkeeping team, you will manage day to day bookkeeping and financial administration for a portfolio of clients. You will work closely with business owners and the wider team to ensure records are accurate, deadlines are met, and clients receive a professional and reliable service.

The successful candidate will be comfortable handling multiple client accounts, reconciling financial data and processing payroll.

Main Responsibilities

Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients across various industries
Processing and maintaining accurate purchase and sales invoices
Recording payments, receipts, and financial transactions efficiently
Reconciling bank accounts and resolving discrepancies promptly
Maintaining sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers
Assisting with month end and year end financial processes
Preparing journals, reports, and supporting financial information for accountants
Preparing weekly and monthly payment runs
Supporting payroll processing, including PAYE, pensions, and National Insurance submissions
Assisting with VAT returns
Using software including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Dext, Hubdoc, Moneysoft, and Excel
Building strong professional relationships with clients and responding to queries in a timely manner

About You

We are looking for someone who is reliable, detail-focused, and able to work independently while maintaining a high standard of service.

You should have:

Previous bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice or finance environment
Strong working knowledge of Xero and QuickBooks
Payroll experience or an understanding of payroll processes preferred
Strong organisational and time management skills
Excellent communication skills and a professional approach with clients
Confidence working with cloud accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
The ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workload effectively

Desirable

AAT qualification or currently studying towards a finance/accounting qualification
Experience working with small businesses and limited companies
Knowledge of CIS and pension submissions would be an advantage
