About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Compliance & Risk Officer to join our growing

Financial Services business. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with experience in Banking, Foreign Exchange, Payments, FinTech or another regulated financial institution who is passionate about regulatory compliance, financial crime prevention, risk assessment & mitigation management. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the firm's compliance framework, ensuring compliance with UK regulatory requirements and supporting the business in delivering a strong culture of governance, risk mitigation management and financial crime prevention.

Key Responsibilities

1: Maintain and continuously improve the company's Compliance Framework, including policies, procedures, systems and internal controls to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.

2: Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable UK regulations, including Anti-Money

Laundering (AML) legislation, FCA requirements and internal compliance standards.

3: Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and Risk Mitigation

Assessments for new and existing customers, ensuring appropriate customer risk assessments are completed.

4: Perform ongoing customer and transaction monitoring to identify unusual or suspicious activity and ensure compliance with AML and financial crime regulations.

5: Investigate internal compliance alerts, Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and financial crime investigations where appropriate (MLRO responsibility).

6: Maintain and review the firm's AML Risk Assessment, applying a risk-based approach to

identify, assess and mitigate financial crime risks.

7: Conduct compliance monitoring activities, branch inspections and internal compliance reviews to ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory obligations.

8: Maintain accurate regulatory records, compliance manuals, policies and procedures, ensuring documentation remains up to date and audit ready.

9: Conduct sanctions, Politically Exposed Person (PEP) and adverse media screening to support effective customer risk management.

10: Prepare compliance reports and risk mitigation management information to support

governance, regulatory oversight and business decision-making.

11: Support the delivery of AML and Compliance training, promoting awareness of regulatory

responsibilities across the business.

12: Identify opportunities to strengthen compliance processes, internal & regulatory controls,

supporting the continuous improvement of the firm's compliance and risk management

framework.

Candidate Profile

● Minimum 2 years' experience within Banking, Foreign Exchange, Payments, FinTech, Money

Services or another regulated financial services environment.

● Practical experience in Compliance, AML, KYC, CDD, EDD, Risk Management or Financial

Crime Prevention.

● Good understanding of UK Anti-Money Laundering Regulations, the Money Laundering

Regulations 2017, the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, and applying a risk-based approach.

● Knowledge of FCA regulatory expectations, customer due diligence, sanctions screening,

Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), transaction monitoring and customer risk assessments.

● Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across the business.

● Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.

● Degree-level education.

● A proactive, professional and adaptable approach with a genuine interest in developing a

long-term career within Compliance and Risk Management.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting (preferred).

Work Location

Hybrid – Birmingham. Applicants should be able to reliably commute to Birmingham or plan to
