Senior Care Assistant

Location: Abbotsleigh Mews Care Home. Old Farm Road East, Sidcup, DA15 8AY

Contract: Permanent - Full Time

Hours: 44 hours per week available, covering nights or days/nights

Salary: £13.25- £14.84 per hour depending on experience

Abbotsleigh Mews is a purpose-built care home, welcoming those in need of nursing, residential and dementia care. Short stay, convalescence and palliative care also available.

The home is arranged into different houses for different types of care and is surrounded by beautiful landscaped grounds. Residents also have a choice of lounge and dining areas, a sensory room and activities rooms.

We know that it's important to create a friendly atmosphere at the home, giving all residents as much independence as possible, while also making sure that they have all the care and help they require.

A versatile activities programme aims to help residents maintain their independence as long as possible. Residents can enjoy a wide range of hobbies, coffee mornings, outings, music and other games, arts and crafts as well as weekly visits from the neighbouring nursery and part of an ongoing initiative to help bring old and young people together.

As a Senior Care Assistant, we understand how crucial your role is to our home. Not simply managing of Care Assistants that deliver high quality, personal care to our residents, but also inspiring, developing, and nurturing them to be their best every day.

We'll train you on all aspects of our new digital care, which is transforming how we work, making things easier and letting you focus on clinical excellence and care for our residents. You'll help us make health happen by:

Day-to-day responsibility for running a unit
Supporting with clinical duties, including supporting the nurse to observe, issue medication, review care plans and accurate record keeping
Driving and managing a team of Care Assistants, including responsible for all shift handovers of the teams
Helping with training and supervision of new staff members so they feel welcomed and supported
Building relationships with residents, their families and external teams such as GPs and District Nurses
Assisting residents with a range of personal care duties

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

You'll have completed / working towards an NVQ3 in care. We're more than happy to support you in the completion of your qualification if needed.
You're motivated, positive and with great interpersonal skills, and you enjoy working in a close-knit team. You're pivotal in running a unit, working with the Nurse to aid with clinical duties for the home.
You have previous experience of the role and knowledge of its rewards and challenges. Just as importantly, you also have a passion for making a real difference to people's lives, giving them the kindness, personalised support and dignity they need.
