About Us
Churchill Investments is a family-run financial planning business based in Winscombe, North Somerset. We currently look after more than 500 client relationships, providing advice across retirement planning, investment management, protection and tax-efficient planning.
We are proud of our track record of developing talent from within the business. Several members of our team have progressed through administration, paraplanning and adviser pathways, supported by professional qualifications, mentoring and practical experience.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and career-focused individual to join our financial planning team in a technical support role.
This is not a career administrator position. The role is designed as an entry point into the financial planning profession for an individual with the ambition and aptitude to progress through professional qualifications and into more technical roles over time.
Whilst the successful candidate will initially undertake a variety of technical administration and implementation responsibilities, these activities form the foundation of a structured development pathway into paraplanning, technical report writing and broader financial planning responsibilities. We are looking for someone who wants to learn the profession from the ground up rather than simply process paperwork.
This opportunity is likely to appeal to someone at the beginning of their professional career who is looking for a structured development pathway within financial planning. Whether you are a recent graduate, have recently completed further education, or are looking to establish yourself in a professional services environment, we are looking for an individual with strong academic ability, excellent attention to detail and a genuine desire to build a long-term career in the profession.
Location & Working Arrangements
This is a full-time office-based role working from our Winscombe office.
Because this position is focused on training, mentoring and professional development, the successful candidate will be expected to work from the office on a daily basis alongside our advisers, paraplanners and administration team. We believe this provides the best environment for learning, collaboration and long-term career progression.
Key Responsibilities
Initial responsibilities are likely to include:
· Preparing client review packs and meeting documentation.
· Implementing recommendations across new and existing client accounts.
· Placing and managing investment transactions on client accounts.
· Supporting the completion and submission of protection and insurance applications.
· Liaising with clients and providers to progress cases.
· Assisting with technical queries and more complex client cases.
· Maintaining accurate client records and back-office systems.
· Supporting our admin, paraplanning and adviser teams in delivering quality client outcomes.
As technical knowledge and qualifications develop, the successful candidate will gradually take on more paraplanning responsibilities, including research, recommendation preparation and report writing.
Professional Development
This role forms part of our long-term development programme and is intended for candidates who are committed to building a career within financial planning.
The successful candidate will be expected to progress through the CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning (R01–R06) as part of their development within the business.
Candidates who demonstrate the aptitude and ambition to move into advisory roles may subsequently be supported through the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning and our internal adviser development programme.
We provide support through:
· Internal technical training.
· Mentoring from experienced advisers and paraplanners.
· Payment of examination fees upon successful completion.
· Structured development plans and regular progression reviews.
· Access to technical resources and industry publications.
In addition, Churchill Investments runs dedicated quarterly Development Days. On these days the office closes to normal client activity, allowing the team to focus exclusively on professional development for our trainees. Sessions typically combine technical presentations from external industry specialists with practical case-study workshops.
Trainees are given the opportunity to work through realistic client scenarios, develop recommendations and present their findings to experienced members of the advice team acting as clients in a supportive and collaborative environment. We believe that combining professional qualifications with practical application is the most effective way to develop exceptional financial planners.
