Full job description

We are seeking a motivated, compassionate, and knowledgeable Social Work Assistant to support our Social Worker in delivering high-quality services to children, young people, and families. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), who is passionate about supporting families and promoting positive outcomes for children.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of our alternative provision, assisting with administrative tasks, developing resources, and working directly with children, young people, and their families.

This role offers training and development opportunities, including training to co-deliver and eventually lead direct intervention sessions with children and facilitate post-diagnosis support groups for children and their families under the guidance and supervision of a qualified Social Worker.

Some Saturday working will be required to support and supervise family contact sessions within the community. This post is initially for 8 hours a week.

Key ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Support

Provide administrative support to the Social Worker.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and case documentation.
Assist with scheduling appointments, sessions, and group programmes.
Support communication with families, schools, and partner agencies.

Resource Development

Create and develop engaging resources for use within our alternative provision.
Assist in producing educational materials, activities, and information packs for children and families.
Support the ongoing development of neurodiversity-informed resources.

Direct Work with Children and Families

Support the planning and delivery of direct sessions with children and young people.
Build positive and professional relationships with children, families, and professionals.
Assist with the delivery of post-diagnosis support groups for children and families affected by autism and ADHD.
Deliver structured interventions and activities following training and under professional supervision.
Promote engagement, confidence, and wellbeing among service users.

Community Contact Supervision

Supervise family contact sessions within community settings as required.
Monitor and record observations during contact sessions.
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children throughout supervised contact.
Work occasional Saturdays to meet service requirements.

Essential Requirements

Extensive knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD.
Experience working with children, young people, and families.
Confidence in engaging and communicating effectively with children and adults.
Ability to build positive professional relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable Requirements

Experience within social care, education, youth work, family support, or a related field.
Understanding of neurodiversity-affirming practice.
Experience facilitating groups or delivering workshops.
Experience supporting children with additional needs.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
