Autism Specialist

About the Role

Justteachers is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Specialist to join a specialist school in West Yorkshire

This rewarding role involves supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), including pupils who are non-verbal and may present behaviours that challenge. Working closely with teaching staff and therapists, you will play a vital role in helping students access learning, develop communication skills, and achieve their individual goals in a safe and supportive environment.

The successful candidate will have a patient, proactive, and resilient approach, with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with complex needs.

This specialist setting provides a highly structured and nurturing environment for students with autism and additional learning needs. The school is committed to delivering personalised support, promoting independence, and celebrating every student's achievements through a child-centred approach.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with autism and complex needs.
Support non-verbal students using communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, visual supports, or alternative communication systems.
Assist students in accessing learning activities tailored to their individual needs and abilities.
Implement behaviour support strategies to promote engagement, emotional regulation, and positive outcomes.
Support students with sensory needs and help maintain a calm and structured learning environment.
Build positive and trusting relationships with students, encouraging independence and confidence.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver consistent support.
Monitor and record student progress and contribute to individual support plans.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
Proven experience supporting students with complex needs, including non-verbal communication.
Strong knowledge of autism support strategies and communication techniques such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables.
Experience supporting students who may present behaviours that challenge.
A patient, calm, and resilient approach to supporting learners with additional needs.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
Two education or school-based references.
The legal right to work in the UK.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £98.00-£115.00 per day
