Full job description

We Currently have 2 full time positions for a Deputy unit manager. 1 is a working days and 1 working nights.

Requirements:

Must be NMC registered as an RGN, preferably with minimum of 2 years post qualified experience.

Qualified nurse (RGN) with previous experience along with evidence of PREP (Post-registration Education & Practice).

The Marillac Neurological Care Centre is a not for profit independent care home registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Our aim is to be a leading centre of excellence for helping adults with neurological and complex physical disabilities.

The Marillac Neurological Care Centre has a particular pride in its reputation for professionalism and kindness in its service to residents. These qualities rely very much on the commitment and skills of staff and the success of the Charity depends upon co-operation, trust and respect between all levels.

Job Purpose

To be responsible for the flow and management of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants within the Unit, ensuring that high quality care is being delivered at all times. To deputise for your Unit Manager in their absence, taking on their duties and rota.

Key Responsibilities

· Ensure that residents’ nursing care and safety is the main priority including preserving their dignity, and that their needs are recognised, assessed and responded to in a high standard in accordance with the MNCC’s policies and procedures.

· Ensure that residents are treated with respect, their rights are upheld and that any discriminatory attitudes and behaviours towards residents are challenged. Note: This is in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct 2015.

· Provide a high profile, visible clinical leadership to the unit’s team consisting of nurses and carers.

· Promote and safeguard the well-being and interests of all residents, employees and visitors.

· Provide clinical support and guidance within the nursing care team that leads by example and acts as an advocate for resident’s welfare, safety and dignity ensuring that no adverse CQC audits, inspections, reports or ratings are received.

· Maintain nursing/clinical skills and knowledge and be a champion for ensuring employees are fully up to date with best clinical practice guidelines.

· To oversee the development and ensure effective implementation and monitoring of care planning, ensuring personalised care plans exist for each resident and are updated as necessary and all related documentation for residents on the unit, and liaising with the Unit Manager to ensure that all day to day issues are resolved.

· Be a supportive mentor to the wider team regarding upskilling care staff and supporting new members of the team with the ability to plan and undertake work appropriately.

· Provide strong and robust leadership in the clinical environment using the core skills of facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, teaching and delegation.

· Ensure your unit is adequately staffed, resourced and able to deliver high quality, safe and effective resident care at all times.

· Lead the nursing team and take responsibility for the ordering and management of medication administration for all residents on the Unit.

· To ensure all staff working in the unit, including bank staff, receives supervision at least six times a year, including an annual appraisal for their personal and professional development.

· Ensure safe systems of work are in line with the MNCC and local policy procedures and to represent the Unit on the Health & Safety Committee.

· Participate in and take an active lead on organisational clinical and nursing audit programmes including collection of key performance indicators within the stipulated time scales for monitoring and reporting purposes.

· Adhere to the requirements of confidentiality in relation to residents and staff by referring to the Safeguarding and GDPR policies of the MNCC and CQC.

Additional Responsibilities

· Employees must be aware of their Health & Safety responsibility to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out and to maintain a safe environment for all employees, residents, volunteers and visitors.

· To be aware of infection control policies, procedures and the importance of protecting themselves, residents, volunteers and visitors and in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

· Receive and carry out induction training and yearly updates for Manual Handling / Moving and Positioning, in order to provide sufficient and safe practice with residents. This includes working with hoists, rota stand, and other specialised transfer, positioning and postural management equipment, in the correct way, fulfilling Health & Safety policies and legislation.

· To follow The Marillac Neurological Care Centre training requirements such as yearly mandatory training via e-learning, staff competencies and workshops if required to attend.

One 1 shift of 6.5 hours per week will be supernumerary.

To positively promote the Marillac Neurological Care Centre’s values of Trust, Respect, Hope, Dignity and Excellence in your day-to-day work ensuring, residents receive holistic, person-centred care.

The post-holder may be required to carry out other duties and responsibilities, from time to time, as determined by The Marillac Neurological Care Centre. The job description will also be subject to change in-line with the needs of the Centre.

Staff have a contractual duty to ensure that mandatory training is current and will be expected to participate and undertake further developmental training, specific to their role.
