Job Summary

Clive Cowern Transport Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and commercially minded General Haulage Planner to join our busy operations team based in Bridgnorth.

This is a pivotal role within the business, offering the opportunity to help plan and coordinate a modern fleet of around 40 Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles operating throughout the UK. Working for one of the area's leading hauliers, you will play a key part in delivering excellent customer service while maximising fleet efficiency, driver utilisation and profitability.

The role goes far beyond simply allocating vehicles. You will work closely with drivers, customers and colleagues to plan work, source additional loads, provide quotations, solve operational challenges and ensure the fleet operates safely, legally and efficiently. There is significant scope for the successful candidate to make their mark on the business and contribute to its continued growth and success.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in planning and coordinating the daily operation of a mixed fleet of approximately 40 Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles.
Allocate work to drivers and vehicles to maximise efficiency and customer service.
Communicate directly with drivers throughout the day, providing instructions, updates and support.
Enter customer jobs accurately into the Transport Management System (TMS).
Produce quotations and pricing for transport enquiries.
Source additional work and backloads where appropriate to maximise vehicle utilisation and revenue.
Build loads and routes in a commercially effective manner while maintaining service standards.
Monitor vehicle movements and respond proactively to delays, breakdowns or customer requirements.
Liaise with customers to provide updates and resolve operational queries.
Ensure transport plans comply with drivers' hours legislation, Working Time requirements and company procedures.
Work closely with the wider operations team to deliver a high-quality and reliable transport service.
Maintain accurate records and update transport systems in real time.

Skills & Experience Required

Previous experience in transport planning, haulage operations or logistics is highly desirable.
A good understanding of UK road transport and general haulage operations.
Knowledge of drivers' hours regulations and transport compliance would be advantageous.
Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify planning opportunities and maximise fleet utilisation.
Excellent communication skills and confidence when dealing directly with drivers and customers.
Strong IT skills, including experience with Transport Management Systems and Microsoft Office.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
A proactive, positive and solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
The ability to work independently while contributing as part of a close-knit operations team.
