An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Relief Plant Supervisor to join our Readymix Concrete business. The role will be based at our Head Office in Huddersfield and is a full time and permanent position.
Myers Readymix are a well-established concrete provider operating in West and North Yorkshire and part of the progressive family owned Myers Group. The primary aim of this role is to supervise the safe and efficient day-to-day activity on a relief basis, of the production of concrete within the Readymix operational located at Huddersfield, in order to meet the customer and business needs.

As Relief Plant Supervisor your main duties and key responsibilities will include:
- Manage and maintain appropriate processes relevant to production operations within the scope of Quality, Environmental and Safety systems to comply with the regulations.
- Ensure all contractors and employees comply with the Company Health and Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure all activities undertaken by you or by those reporting to you and/or within your area of operation comply with the Company’s H&S policies, manuals and procedures, and that all plants are maintained in a safe working condition.
- Manage maintenance expenditure, performance and budgets, including raising order numbers and checking invoices according to company requirements.
- Manage maintenance tasks across the plant network to ensure the most cost effective and suitable option is implemented.
- Implement preventative maintenance programs where necessary, this will include working closely with the OEM (Liebherr UK) to ensure the plant operates to maximum efficiency.
- Ensure your direct reports are made aware of assessment risks and appropriate records are kept.
- Work closely with the lego blocks chargehand and operatives to ensure production is maintained and tracked. Furthermore ensure the block production is efficient and operating safely.
- Oversee, supervise and/or undertake all plant calibrations, maintenance checks, audits and inspections at agreed intervals, producing audit reports, corrective and preventative actions and root-cause analysis of any issues.
- Liaise with the transport department in terms of supplier issues pertaining to service that may influence (positively or negatively) on the decision to utilise a particular supplier or source.
- Oversee day-to-day operational issues and customer complaints effectively and efficiently.
- Maintain a close liaison with your line manager, keeping them informed on all such matters that may impact the business such as product, quality, H&S or environmental.
- Manage, control and authorise payment in terms of working hours for direct reporting staff.
- Practical job cover when required.
- Ensure the cleanliness of all plants – regular inspection of housekeeping standards.
- Organise day-to-day requirements and/or any planned holidays etc for all staff reporting to you, arrange relief staff and drivers and/or other resource as necessary.
- Liaise with your line manager in order to determine current and/or future training needs for you and the team.
- Maximise opportunities for increasing sales, reducing costs and implement improvements for increasing efficiency.
- Communicate efficiently with all members of the team providing them with clear instructions and feedback on requirements, deadlines, and quality of work.
- Undertake suitable training and maintain CPD records.
- Attend meetings and group discussions where required.
- Any other reasonable duties which may be required by the Company from time to time, as instructed by or under the direction of your immediate manager.
Preferred skills, experience and attributes:
- Experienced concrete plant batcher/supervisor with an understanding of Readymix plants and the industry. Ideally qualified to CGLI Concrete Technology Part 1 (or equivalent).
- Sound knowledge of products and materials supplied
- Good knowledge of BS EN ISO 9001 Quality and 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Ability of operate mobile plant as required.
- Have a suitable fitness level to conduct work appropriately.
- Good technical ability relating to electrical and mechanical disciplines.
- Sound analytical skills with an eye for detail; good problem solving ability and a practical approach.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own and team workload.
- Strong managerial skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Must be PC literate.

- Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
